NHL 2K8 Impressions (PS3)

initial impressions:

graphically not so impressed, I think 2k7 looked as good or better on the 360.

The framerate on the ps3 seems to be about 30fps with some noticeable drop at times.

Does anyone know if the graphics are better on the 360 this year?

Controls will need some getting used to and will need to play several more games to see if the AI is any good.

So far, not initially too impressed, especially the graphics on the ps3 but we will see if the gameplay measures up after getting into the game more and learning the controls.

Picked it up for PS3 as well.

The framerates are brutal with the default camera. I had to switch to the 3/4 camera view.

Graphics are good but not great. It doesn't feel next gen in this department.

The gameplay is great. I love the new signature moves, and goalie saves.

WoW, i mean really wow. All i can say is this so called "Next Gen" to me has been the Worse leap in Video Games overall. I mean 360's Red Lights, games not playing right blah blah. Now Developers do not have the know how to program for the PS3. 30fps vs 60 fps its really sad how to me theres have been so much negativity in the Next Gen overall. My personal opinion of course.

I don't get it. How can 2k7 be 60 fps on the PS3 (at the system's launch) and then 2k8's be 30fps? 2k7 was smooth as butter last year on the PS3. This is really disappointing.

i dont know if 2k7 was 60fps on ps3, I believe it was on the 360 though. Does anyone know if it's 60fps on the xbox 360 this year?

It certainly is a shame that the more powerful ps3 has to put up with these issues. I really want to use my ps3 more than my xbox.

2k7 on ps3 came out in November.....actually late November.

So the team had around 3 more months to iron out the kinks.

Not making excuses, just stating a point.

I agree that this 30 fps BS on the PS3 is unexcuseable.

after playing mlb07 at 60fps, then playing nhl2k8 you definitely notice the difference and feel a little dissapointed.

Is the framerate still bad in the 3/4 view? That's the view I liked most and used last year.

i think 3/4 is the default, parametric is the brutal one. 3/4 is decent but the framerate is not butter either, you usually won't notice it. I really think the graphics took a step backwards this year. (comparing 2k8 for ps3 and 2k7 for 360)

Another problem I noticed,

i'm playing on all-star simulation settings and got into a shootout against the cpu (thrashers). The cpu has not scored in 22 attempts. On that note, either have I 'cause I stink. But the fact that the cpu cannot score in 22 attempts so far as I write this is bothersome.

I finally scored on my 23rd shot and the cpu missed on his.

this is not looking good....

That was a issue with last year's game. I take it you're not fearing star players on the opposing team when they're one-on-one with a goalie or a defender?

Bummer, but not surprising.

Seeing a lot of one-timers? How about the defensemen? Do they score more this year?

no, i have no fear in a shootout, but i should, against kovolchuk, hossa, kozlov??? If i remember right, 2k7 on 360 was better in shootouts. I really haven't played enough to determine how good or bad the one-timer situation is or if the defense scores more.
