    Passing

I usually get most of my 2k hockey enjoyment from the 'manual' passing option (cpu pass assist slider). In 2k8 I usually put the slider (go to Controller Setup and then press Y for advanced options) on 20. It's a fairly challenging setting, but not too frustrating. Well, in 2k9 I put it on 20 and it was SO easy to pass. I'm able to do like most gamers do, aim in the player's general direction and pass. 9 times out of 10 it's a perfect connection! I even went to the Pass Accuracy slider and slid it to 0 and it's still WAY too easy to pass.

For anyone that hasn't played 2k8 w/ difficult passing settings, you dont know what you're missing. It adds soooo much to the game. In tape to tape type passing, passing requires very little skill. With manual passing, connecting a quick succession of passes is almost as glorious as making a sweet goal. It's also a GREAT and overlooked way to up the difficulty. Instead of having to dumb down your teammates or make them slow as molasses, you can retain much of the skills and intelligence and still be challenged by the AI simply due to the emphasis on gamer passing skills.

I've been playing on All-Star until I get the new controls down. Maybe I'll tweak the sliders in my favor and go to Hall of Fame difficulty and see if that ups the passing challenge.

Anyone care to comment on the passing game?

    Re: Passing

You need to go into your controller settings and change the pass assist to zero. Then you will be able to pass the puck wherever you want. You'll be able to pass the puck into open spaces and off the boards. It's the only way to go!!

Yea, i love unassisted passing, but unfortunately the assitance is VERY heavy in 2k9. I put pass aim assist on 0 and pass accuracy on 0 and its still heavily assisted. HUGE disappointment. HUGE!

2 of my biggest selling pts on 2k is the full use of the stick on D and the manual passing and unfortunately, those aint working. I'm sure the stick work will return in 2k10, but these 2 issues are a MAJOR con for 2k9 for me.

Hmm.. interesting. I have no problems at all. I can pass it anywhere I want. I do agree the full use of right stick on defense isn't what it should be.

If you have to guys in front of you, fairly close together, youre able to pass it between and past them?

With 2k8 pass aim assist set on 0 you have to be a dead shot to get it to the player successfully. With 2k9 its requiring almost ZERO forethought. I can just pass, pass, pass and it goes to a teammate!

Well, that's not the same issue then. What you're talking about is the ability to pass the puck through the defense, not being able to pass it where you want to. I've seen some of that and it has to do with this year's poor collision detection with sticks.

No, Im NOT talking about passing it between the defense. I'm talking about passing it between teammates. The reason I mention that scenario is because it'll clearly show you that the pass is being guided by the cpu.

Yea, you can pass it where you want - if you want it passed to a teammate. The only way I can make poor passes is if I aim my passes away from teammates.

              Example:

In 2k8, if you had pass assist off and a teammate was at the 2 oclock position, in relation to you, and you pushed the stick to the 2:30 position it would be an errant pass.

In 2k9, if you have pass assist off and a teammate is at the 2 oclock position and you push the stick to the 3 oclock position youll easily complete the pass.

In 2k8, if you had pass assit on 0, youd be lucky to complete 3 or 4 challenging passes in a row. In 2k9 I can be in the midst of a mob and pass it all around and complete one pass after another, w/ very little forethought or effort.

Do you have 2k8? But this isnt about 2k8 vs 2k9, its about Pass Aim Assist having very little effect, as well as Human Passing Accuracy.

BTW, I love portions of this game. I'm having a graphical glitch and dont know if Im gonna be able to keep it, but its a VERY promising game!!!

Yes, I do have 2k8 and have played it enough to not really notice a difference. To each their own I guess. I'm just not experiencing what you are and have no complaints with the passing.

                  Re: Passing

Put both games on the same settings, esp the cpu pass assist and human pass accuracy. Put both those on 0 for both games. Now go play each. Try to get in 100 passes and then compare your accuracy.
