Official NHL 2K10 Impressions Thread

Alright boys, I have good news and bad news.

Good News: I have a copy of NHL 2K10 and 360 right beside me.

Bad News: Just like with NHL10, I am at work so I will just pop it in for now to prove I have it (check Gamertag), but I won't be able to play it until after work.

General Impressions:

- After playing NHL10, the controls on here are hard to get used to.
- I HATE speed burst in hockey games now.
- Seems you don't have as good of control over your player.
- Game seems a bit static, in that player doesn't seems to skate... it feels like he's running on ice.

Do you mean there's too much player momentum, and players don't move quick enough? I know past games felt like players were rollerblading or something, as opposed to skating.

I've never been a fan of the speed burst either.

what I'm going to do turn up the game speed some notches, turn OFF speed burst .

No speedburst and there will be no stupid one handed stickhandling animations.

hopefully this will work well

Do you mean there's too much player momentum, and players don't move quick enough? I know past games felt like players were rollerblading or something, as opposed to skating.

I don't know how to explain it... simply put, it feels like they are incredibly heavy and don't move well enough for a FAST game played on ice.

I believe ice friction is still there. You can try and adjust that slider. That might help.

That's a good idea. I forgot you can turn off speed burst.

The menu system is sad. I really, REALLY feel bad for the person who came out with this layout. You use the left stick to point towards and select the option you want. In the menu, who cares, but in game it is so depressing. Who in their right mind came up with this?

The whole game thus far is just very disappointing -- hopefully it imrpoves.

Go figure, the one year I buy both hockey games and I feel like I've wasted my money. Frig!

I'm sorry to hear that you're not having fun with it.

I know that when I first fired up 2k2 I hated it. I was so used to EA's game that everything about 2K bothered me; flow of the game, models, menu's, controls, etc.
But after a few games of giving it a chance, it grew on me bigtime. I started realizing that I needed to treat it like I've never played another hockey game and to judge this one on it's own merits. Once I did that I started to see the hidden gem that it was. Gameplay was awesome and the AI was terrific.

Play with some sliders or maybe just give it a few games to get used to controls and gameplay and see how you like it.
If not, I'm sure you could sell it on Ebay for at least 90% of what you paid new.

All he talk about was the menus, yes we know he has it, but he never once stated what he didn't like about the game itself.

He also needs to go into playing the game opened minded, not just stack it up against NHL10.

If you're going to set up an impressions thread, at least have things set the way you want to and play a game or two before going on about the little steps you've gone through in the game.

This started out more like the "Official I Have The Game And You Don't But I Can't Play It Yet But When I Do I'll Spit Something Out After Every Step Before I Give It Some Time Thread".

Sheesh.
