    NHL 2K10 PS2 2018 Rosters Coming

A version of this has now been released, click here.

Attributes, ages, captaincies, equipment and jersey numbers will all be as close to reality as possible (within the game's limitations)

My hopes were to have the modern teams ready in time for the playoffs (Which I accomplished)

I always wanted to put out a roster for this game because it never got one and now it has one. Thank you all for the support.

Currently Finished (as of May 26th, 2018) (Historic Teams as of August 4th, 2019)
    Bold Italics
    - Not in released version of save yet.

    Modern:

    All

    Historic:

You're going to make me wish I had this game. The PS2/original XBox games are awesome and have a much deeper offseason than the PS3/360 games, with the prospects game and everything. (And intuitive menus! 2K8's menu is weird on next-gen, and 2K10's required an engineering degree to figure out.)

Really?? Wow, I had no idea! The last game from that gen other than PES6 and NFL 2K5 that I played was NHL2K6 on the XBOX. From there I went to the 360 and didn't really go back. What were some of the better NHL2Ks on PS2/XBOX?

Sorry, I said prospects "tournament", it's just a single game. But yeah, hiring staff, scouting by region and watching the prospects before the draft... it's great. Pretty sure all the PS2/XBox games had those features.

I like 2K5 for its ESPN theme and commentary from Thorne/Clement. The trade-off is CPU-team management AI is atrocious. Maybe Finn's editor could get around that, though. Believe it or not, my 2K8 rosters started as an XBox 2K5 project. I switched to PS3 because I couldn't get save files off my XBox. Anyway, you could compare games on YouTube. 2K10 may be worth it just for this update here.

Honestly, in my search for Classic Rosters in the 2K world (part of a larger project by me to go back to older greater games than what we have now) I found ESPN 2K5 and absolutely loved it. Hadn't played it much back then. I would LOVE updated rosters for 2K5. I did use the editor though to completely update the Leafs and it was extremely cool hearing the commentary and seeing the players in a game from 2004.

Finished about half of the New Jersey Devils. one thing that kinda sucks is that I'm basing my stats off of a spreadsheet on here for NHL '18 from January. because I don't quite know the stats. (I want everyone to have a realistic overall)

My hope is that finishing the roster would possibly encourage more people to try 2K10 on the PS2 and do some testing with me. because right now it's just me; I don't know of anyone else who has the game. I originally got it in 2011.

                  Wow, awesome.

Making a single team takes me hours at a time. which is why sometimes I tackle players who played in 2008-09 and modify their equipment/stats/information.

One thing I forgot to mention: I started work on this roster in early-2017. the Winnipeg Jets have an unfinished 2016-17 roster on my game/the preview version of the save. it actually makes things easier because it's a lot more simple to update a team from 2017 than from 2009. because the skaters are already there. I might take a break from alphabetical order and update Winnipeg next for that reason.

Devils and Jets are done, but I've made quite the discovery.

Digging through the game's roster file in a hex editor shows arena names in plain text amongst other information.

So it could entirely be possible that once the roster itself is finished I could rename most of the arenas to their current names (As long as it fits the text strings)

I'm also looking at what appears to be coaches names (Alain Vigneault, Paul Maurice) also in plain text.

At some point, I'd like to open up a franchise file in a hex editor. If things like the in-game year are in plain text I could modify them to be 2018 and see how the game reacts.....wonder if the current Stanley Cup Champion / titles won could be modified. all I would have to do is set 2009 to 2017 because Pittsburgh won the cup last year.

Those are some incredible advancements you've been working on. They could make this game amazing to update. I played a game today, I had never played the PS2 version. I was surprised how good it was. To be honest, it plays pretty much just like 2K6 and 2K5 did for XBOX where I played them. I always preferred Xbox for games that permitted custom soundtracks like NFL 2K5.
Of course, by about 2K7 I don't know that they were really doing anything other than updating uniforms and rosters and maybe a few extra features. Not that they need to, they played so well. But I remember vividly at that time, having fallen for it myself, how much we were swayed to the newer graphics of the 360/PS3 and abandoned sports games that were often better in their last gen iterations. Thank goodness for people like you that know how to take these games apart to look for ways of updating them.
Anyway, I haven't tried your rosters yet, have to put them on a memory card, etc.

I've been curious and messing with this game since I first got it.

For so long nobody really cared about NHL 2K10 PS2. I decided after so long I should just take it into my own hands. I did break down and buy the 360 version of the game. and while I admit it is better. I feel like a system as notable as the PS2 deserves roster updates.

I expected opening the roster file into a hex editor to yield jibberish programming language but was shocked to find so much updatable stuff in plain text.

I've been messing with ESPN NHL 2K5 on Xbox recently as well (could be my next project after this one), adding 2018 goal horns and seeing the game use them. it's awesome. the only issue is when I FTP my 2K5 roster to my computer and try to use Finn's editor to modify it, the game doesn't recognize any changes when I put the save back. I actually have to rename some folders/zip it up to make it appear as an Action Replay save to modify. (Only way Finn's editor will recognize it)

I just feel like the 360 2K10 (as well as the MLB from that era) despite getting a lot of gried for its menu system, was one of the best ever for presentation during a season. News updates with screenshots from the games, great tracking of leaders, etc but all 2K sports games had that done really well. I just think 2K10 with molifox's rosters found here is an incredible game that plays well and has great presentation. Just trying to tweak my sliders for realistic skating right now and shot totals.

Like I said, the more things we can edit in these games, the better.

Yes!! Please do, a lot of us here like it. I think @snowdrift is a big fan. I added music from another game on my XBOX and even edited a few lines of my Leafs using the editor and it was very cool playing 2K5 but with today's Leafs and music. I don't honestly know what I did, but it worked. I really wanted to get all the Classics teams named.
