Cunningham, Butcher, and McKnight won't play

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Florida Atlantic Owls (1-4, 1-2) will be short handed this week. Marcus Cunningham and Jeremy McKnight both suffered minor injuries this week.
Cunningham got nailed after making a catch in last week's win over Rice, and after the game we we're told his ribs were broken on the play. He is expected to miss couple of weeks, but should be good to go against Auburn.
McKnight while in practice pulled his hamstring and will only this week.

Re: The Coaching Career of Greg Patterson (NCAA 14)

BIRMINGHAM, AL. -- The Florida Atlantic (2-4, 2-2) would overcome turnovers and score 38 unanswered points to beat UAB 38-7.
Both teams would have 4 turnovers each, all of those being interceptions, but a lone fumble which was picked up by Patrick Bastien and returned for a 12 yard touchdown. That would be the score of the game for the Blazers.
Despite both teams having 4 turnovers, only FAU's offense was able to get going. Florida Atlantic had 496 yards of total offense, 309 of those yards coming from the Owl's rushing attack.
UAB on the other hand, would only rack up 143 yards of total offense. Two different quarterbacks combined completing only 15 of 34 passes. Only have 5 yards rushing and completing only 1 third down out of 9.
"Our defense played amazing tonight, by far one of the best defensive performances I've seen by these guys." Said head coach Greg Patterson. "Because of that our offense was able to finally get going in the third quarter."
Florida Atlantic's first score would be a field goal and came at 3:33 left in the second quarter. Couple of minutes later quarterback Stephen Curtis would find the end-zone on the ground for his first touchdown of the game.
The score at halftime was 10-7 for FAU. But it should have been much higher, turnovers, however, would make the score so low.
UAB would only have 5 yards of total offense in the first quarter, the defense had more yardage than the offense. While FAU would have 130 yards.
Florida Atlantic would come out strong in the third quarter. Scoring three touchdowns, the first one coming off an interception to lead to a 12 yard TD pass from Curtis to Jenson Stoshak. The second one being a 48 yard interception return touchdown. Curtis would then find the end-zone on a huge 67 yard touchdown run to give himself his 2nd rushing TD and the Owls a 31-7 lead.
The final score of the game would be halfback Antonio Washington finding the end-zone from 5 yards out.
Jonathan Wallace would finally have himself a really nice game. Rushing for 122 yards off 16 attempts, averaging 7.6 yards a carry. 4th stringer Tony Moore could start to see some playing time. As he ran for 51 yards off only 6 attempts with the second team unit.
All 4 thrown interceptions were by UAB QB Austin Brown. Brown finished with a rating of 58.0 and 127 yards. His backup Jonathan Parry, who replaced Brown early in the fourth, didn't do much better. Only completing 2 of 7 passes.
Florida Atlantic will head back home this week to play conference foe Marshall. FAU will hope to keep their winning streak alive, as they have their last two games, after going 0-4 to start the season.Last edited by Icy4me; 09-14-2013, 07:01 AM.Comment

FAU lose starting linebacker Randall Johnson

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Florida Atlantic Owls will have their stating free safety back. But will be without starting middle linebacker Randall Johnson
Johnson sprained his ankle while playing basketball and will be out for at least three weeks.
"You can't hold players on a leash." Said head coach Greg Patterson. "I wish he didn't play as "hard" as he did, considering he is our leader on defense. But it happened and we will have to deal with it."
The Owls will have Jeremy McKnight back however, which is big as they will play a high powered offense led by RaKeem Cato.

Re: The Coaching Career of Greg Patterson (NCAA 14)

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) -- Down by 21 early, Jeremy McKnight came up big time helping his team rally past Marshall in overtime 31-24.
McKnight made two big time interceptions and his first one was taken back to the house for 57 yards. Which would ignite 28 unanswered points by Florida Atlantic (3-4, 3-2).
"McKnight was the most important player on this team tonight. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have won this." Said head coach Greg Patterson after the game.
Marshall (3-3, 0-2) was having their way with the Owls. RaKeem Cato and the Herd's defense was dominating. The defense would force 3 early interceptions and 4 in total. Cato would score 3 rushing touchdowns in the first two quarters of the game. But early in the third he would be knocked out of the game.
His backup Blake Frohnapfel did not play well in his place. Completing only 5 of 13 passes for 25 yards and threw an interception.
Cato started the game off being unstoppable going 14-17 and having over 100 yards rushing. But he finished 24-39 for 195 yards, an interception, and sacked 5 times. He did run for 117 yards and 3 touchdowns though.
Three of those sacks were responsible by Cory Henry, who also already broke the school for sacks in a season now with 9 sacks on the season.
The Florida Atlantic defense played amazing, especially in the second half by shutting out Marshall.
The offense, however, not so much. Stephen Curtis once again had trouble keeping care of the ball. Throwing 4 interceptions, which brings his total to 13 on the season.
He did throw the game tying touchdown and 2-pt conversion with 3:31 left in the game. But he must perform better for the Owls.
Florida Atlantic would score in two plays in overtime, started off with a 20 yard run by quarterback Stephen Curtis and then a 5 touchdown by Antonio Washington.
FAU tight end Nexon Dorvilus was the biggest reason for FAU scoring on the game tying touchdown. Catching three big time passes. He was there for Curtis all game as well. Finishing the game with 6 catches for 101 yards.
Florida Atlantic will have a bye, before traveling to Auburn to play the Auburn Tigers. The Owls have won three in row games, so they will have momentum heading into the game against Auburn.

Re: The Coaching Career of Greg Patterson (NCAA 14)
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Florida Atlantic Owls have received verbal commitments from tackle Scott Mason and kicker Anthony Allen.
Mason is the #52 best tackle in the nation and had South Florida, UAB, South Alabama, and rival FIU pursing him along with FAU of course.
Anthony Allen, who is the #17 best kicker in the nation will likely see playing time right away. As kicker Mitch Anderson will be graduating after this season.
Both players are FAU's first recruits, which is huge. Because the team will lose 22 seniors after this season.
