Florida Atlantic's 2014 football roster
__________________________________________________ ______________________________
Florida Atlantic has some nice pieces for this season, especially in the secondary. Corners Cre'Von LeBlanc and D'Joun Smith are going to be the leaders on the defense, along with safety Damian Parms. All three players should play really for the Owls and shouldn't give up much yardage through the air.
Which is big for the Owls, considering their defensive line has a lot question marks surrounding them.
Juco Junior, outside linebacker Mike Brown should be huge for the Owls this season as well. Brown has great speed and quickness and is a sure tackler.
But, the offense will need to put up points this season if they want to make a bowl game. Stephen Curtis will have to take good care of the ball for that happen. He thrown 24 interceptions last season compared to only 14 touchdowns. If he cut the interceptions in half FAU will be in good shape to win some games.
Curtis will have some weapons on offense as well. The only receiver who left last season was senior DeAndre Robinson who only saw playing time every once in awhile. With senior Williams Dukes, Marcus Cunningham, and tight end Alex Deleon who started to perform really well towards end of the season Curtis will hopefully put up better numbers.
Curtis will have a better running game than last season as well. With newcomer Doug Brady, bruiser Antonio Washington, and Tony Moore. Washington should see slightly more carries than Brady, but it won't be much, and Brady will likely see more touches overall with the passing attack and returning game.

Florida Atlantic releases official 2014 football schedule
__________________________________________________ ______________________________
With the news that the Owls signed a contract with Troy to play eachother through 2017, a couple of days ago, the team has now officially released the football schedule for the 2014 football season.
Florida Atlantic will open up the season with a near impossible chance of winning, against three in row defending champs in No. 1 Alabama. The game will be at 7:00 PM and coverage will be nationally.
The Owls will then play Texas-Christian who were able to recruit top JUCO and former Aggie quarterback Matt Davis and will be the starter.
FAU will then play their first home game of three against Connecticut, and then finally renew their rivalry against Troy after both teams did not meet last season. They will then start conference play against Rakeem Cato and the high powered Marshall offense.
A bye week to prepare for Southern Miss and another bye week after that, before playing UAB at home, and then two games in row away from home against Louisiana Tech and Middle Tennessee-State.
The Owls will play their final two home games against Rice and North Texas, and finally play rival Florida International for both team's season finales.

Florida Atlantic Owls 2014 season preview
__________________________________________________ _____________________________
Second year coach Greg Patterson is looking to have better success this season. The Owls had their fifth straight losing season, but Patterson was able to get the Owls to 5 wins, the first time since 2008. Despite some parts of the team looking better than this past season, there is still a lot of unproven talent and a lot of question marks surrounding the team.
FLORIDA ATLANTIC OWLS
Coach:Greg Patterson (5-7; 5-7 at FAU)
2013 Record: 5-7 (4-4 Conference-USA)
Key Losses:SS Jeremy McKnight, DE Cory Henry, MLB Randell Johnson
Key Returnees:WR Williams Duke ;CB D'Joun Smith;FS Damian Parms;CB Cre'Von LeBlanc;HB Antonio Washington
Newcomer To Watch: Outside linebacker Mike Brown was a JUCO (JR), and not many teams were looking at him and because of that he choose the Owls. He is going to be huge for the Owls. He has great speed and is almost a sure tackler. Brown could easily become the leader on defense early.
Biggest Games In 2013:The first three weeks for Florida Atlantic won't be easy ones and the chances of victory are low for them. But, Troy (Sept. 20), Southern Miss (Oct. 11), UAB (Oct. 20), and FIU (Nov. 29) will be the deciding factors if the Owls have a chance of a bowl game or not.
Biggest Question Mark Heading Into 2013:The two biggest questions for the Owls this season are can they not turnover the ball, and can they score points on offense. Overall the defense seems pretty good. And with some nice weapons on offense the team will need to count on who plays quarterback, that being Stephen Curtis, at least for the start of the season depending on how he plays.
Forecast:The team has the pieces to have an alright season, but the question is can they stay focus and play smart football. The Owls won't blow anyone out of the water this season, but a 6-6 record at end of the season seems very likely for the club. Also, don't be surprise if they find a way to beat a like Marshall or Middle Tenn-State.
All this will lay on Curtis' shoulders though. He must perform well for the Owls to be successful. He has some nice receivers and a tight end who can be a big target for Curtis.
Expect to see a lot of running backs Washington and newcomer Doug Brady to hopefully help Curtis reduce his turnovers. Washington performed really well towards end of the season, before getting injured for rest of the season and Brady's speed will be huge asset for the Owls.
Patterson has the Owls on a promising path right now, this season the Owls won't be a contender in Conference-USA, but the next season they could be.Last edited by Icy4me; 10-04-2013, 01:21 PM.Comment

Re: The Coaching Career of Greg Patterson (NCAA 14)
Michigan State would be a nice school to go. They don't have a true #1 guy and are in the top 15 in rankings. Plus, Michigan State is my second favorite team.
Although, it would be cool to see you bring a team like Boston College to a contender in the ACC!
Also, a FYI I make every recruit around 77-80 overall, so just because you're not high in the recruiting rankings that doesn't mean you're a low overall, lol. Just in case anyone was wondering.Comment

Oh i wasn't thinking that at all but thanks for the heads up anyways. Going to a top 25 team is nice as well, but it feels so much more nicer when you are the reason a team turns into a contender.Michigan State would be a nice school to go. Tide rolls past FAU with strong rushing attack
TUSCLOOSA, AL. -- T.J. Yeldon and Blake Sims lead Tide's rushing attack as they pound the Owls with 322 yards rushing.
Yeldon proved why he is the Heisman favorite to start the season with 221 yards rushing a touchdown, and another touchdown through the air.
Blake Sims first career as the new starter for Bama wasn't bad either. He only threw for 161 yards, but was 17 for 21, 2 touchdowns, 86 yards rushing, and another touchdown on the ground.
Florida Atlantic played really well on defense to start the game, only giving up 2 field goals in the first quarter. But the defense started to fall apart giving up two touchdowns every quarter for the last three quarters.
"Our defense performed really well at the start of the game. But, their guys [Alabama] started to perform perfectly in the final three quarters." Said head coach Greg Patterson.
The Owls have to worry about their front seven, but not their secondary. The secondary only gave up 177 yards through the air and the longest play through the air they gave up was 20 yards. Also, allowing only 3 catches for 15 yards to Amari Cooper is a pretty big thing to do; considering he was one of the biggest play makers in the nation.
Florida Atlantic's rushing attack also looks to be in good shape. Antonio Washington and newcomer Doug Brady both didn't get many carries this game. But both broke off a 20+ yard run. Washington finished with 47 yards and FAU's only touchdown of the day off 10 carries. Brady has 45 yards off 6 carries. As a team FAU had 132 yards rushing off 26 carries.
5 yards a carry isn't bad considering Bama has one of the best defenses in the nation.
The passing game may be in trouble again this season. Senior quarterback Stephen Curtis completed 11 of 21 passes for 103 yards and 3 interceptions. Although, 2 of those interceptions weren't his fault. Twice Williams Dukes ran a streak and it is was either Dukes or the corner to make, and both times the corner made the play.
Freshman redshirt quarterback Greg Hankerson saw playing time in the final two minutes of the game and didn't look too bad. He ran for 28 yards and completed 4 of 6 passes for 18 yards, but threw an interception.
The Owls also didn't complete their first pass for positive yards until 6:24 left in the second quarter. Something they're going to hope won't happen in future games.
Alabama will play a cupcake FCS team next week. While Florida Atlantic travels to TCU to play the Horned Frogs.
