Dallas' Big 3 combine for 80 as they dominate San Antonio

    November 16, 2019 | by NBA News

The Mavericks were in cruise control for much of the game, backed by a huge 38-12 performance in the second quarter. However, after a 15-5 run late in the fourth, the Spurs almost made an unlikely comeback but fell short, losing 99-115.

DeMarcus Cousins continued his stellar start to the season, finishing with 28 points on 11/14 shooting. Cousins, earlier tweeted "Never forget", alluding to the Mavericks first-round exit last year to the Spurs. He definitely did not forget as he along with John Wall set the tone early. Wall finished with 27 points and 11 assists while Harrison Barnes also scored 25 points.

Dallas was magnificent on the defensive end, racking up 17 steals, 8 blocks and forcing the Spurs to 19 turnovers. After the game, Rick Carlisle addressed the media, applauding his team's efforts, "I was really proud of our guys tonight, particularly on the defensive end. Even though it's just one game, we need the same kind of effort every night to start developing habits. But tonight is definitely an encouraging sign."

Cousins, Mavericks too good for the Nuggets

      December 28, 2019 | by NBA News

With over a month of layoff, the Mavericks showed no signs of rust as they easily defeated the Nuggets, 104-93.

DeMarcus Cousins led the way, filling up the stat sheet and finishing with 25 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 4 blocks. Cousins is now making some noise around the league, with talks of him in contention for both the MVP and DPOY.

As for the Nuggets, it was only their two big men that showed up tonight, with Jokic and Ayton scoring 26 points and 19 points respectively.

          Suns outlast Mavericks, 108-102

          January 11, 2020 | by NBA News

In a surprisingly close battle, it was Phoenix that came on top, led by Devin Booker who poured in 30 points, knocking down 6 triples. Rookie Khalil Carson, whom was selected fifth in last year's draft, was also impressive finishing with 13 points, 14 rebounds and a career high 6 steals.

The Mavericks are now 2-2 to start the season and have yet to win a game on the road.

Porter Jr.'s 23 lifts Jazz past Mavericks

            January 17, 2020 | by NBA News

With Utah electing to shift Michael Porter Jr. over to the power forward spot, it was a move that paid huge dividends as he came up with the goods, finishing with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Rudy Gobert also came up big on the defensive end, hauling up 20 rebounds to go with 11 points.

After the game, when asked if he'll continue to stick with the same lineup, Jazz coach Nate McMillan simply replied "Are you kidding me?", suggesting a no-brainer move with Hayward, Porter Jr. and Gobert as the Jazz's starting frontcourt moving forward.

Meanwhile, Harrison Barnes continued to struggle with his shot, making just 5/15 and 1/8 from downtown. A clearly frustrated Barnes declined to address the media after the game and was even seen spotting up jump shots at the American Airlines Center late in the evening.

Dallas gets message loud and clear, thumps Houston by 16

              January 28, 2020 | by NBA News

After two frustrating losses to Phoenix and Utah, the Mavericks reportedly held a players-only meeting to address areas of concern so far in the season.

Whatever happened, it seemed to have worked as they appear to have found their mojo, easily defeating the Rockets as well as getting their first victory on the road.

Harrison Barnes, whom had been struggling mightily with his shot, fared well in this one, scoring 21 points on 9/18 shooting. John Wall was also very efficient, finishing with 21 points and 13 assists on just 8/9 shooting.

The Mavericks also did extremely well denying James Harden from scoring and limiting him to just single scoring digits for the first three quarters. He finished with 17 points and 14 assists but the game was well and truly over by then.

Warriors have no answers for Cousins, suffer first loss of the season

                February 10, 2020 | by NBA News

For the first time since December 2015, the Dallas Mavericks have defeated the Golden State Warriors, whom were coming into this with a perfect 7-0 record.

However, the Warriors simply could not stop DeMarcus Cousins tonight who exploded for 31 points and 18 rebounds. Cousins was a one-man wrecking crew as he exploited the Warriors' size time and time again. Cousins also knocked down two triples, bringing his average for the season to 66%, a career best where is is also averaging two triples per game.

Mavericks coach, Rick Carlisle, recently praised Cousins for his improvement shooting the long ball stating that, "Last season, you know with all the free agent signing and the injury earlier on, it kind of struck him out of his rhythm. But this year, he's come in, worked on his shot, and has become more vocal with the team."

Cousins' improvement this season has also been noticed around the league as he will be competing in the Foot Locker Three Point Challenge in this years' All-Star Weekend.

Cousins leads Mavericks past Timberwolves, win third straight game

                  February 17, 2020 | by NBA News

DeMarcus Cousins was hearing it at the American Airlines Center as the crowd was chanting "MVP". Cousins powered the Mavs to victory, finishing with 26 points and 14 boards. Harrison Barnes also chipped in with 21 points as he appears to have shaken off the shooting woes experienced early in the season.

Dallas will now get a little over a weeks' break with the All-Star weekend looming before they head to Oklahoma City to face the Thunder on February 28.

Dallas on a win-streak! Impressive victories of late, especially against the Warriors -- could this (finally) be the year that Dallas remains injury free and goes all the way? It's looking good.

If there was any ever doubt on Russell Westbrook's value to Oklahoma City then tonight was it as Westbrook played a season-low, 19 minutes, before fouling out of the game during the third quarter. He finished with 13 points and 5 turnovers.

With nobody else setting up shots for the team, the Thunder combined for just 40% shooting as they had no answer for John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins who combined for 39 points.

In a battle for the top spot in the Southwest Division, it was Memphis that prevailed, winning 105-103.

Mike Conley led the way with 29 points, 14 assists and 4 steals. He was extremely clutch down the stretch, scoring 5 straight points with less than a minute to go.

The win now gives Memphis 5 straight games without a loss as they improve their record to 6-4 after a miserable start to the season.

Pelican's bench carries team to victory, overcome 16 point deficit

                              March 20, 2020 | by NBA News

In an ugly brand of basketball where no team shot over 40% from the field, New Orleans made an unbelievable comeback to steal the game. With both Pelicans starting bigs, Anthony Davis and Marques Bolden fouling out of the game, and the entire starting unit struggling from the field all night, the bench, led by Nikola Mirotic who had 15 points and 7 rebounds, combined for 34 points to defeat the Mavericks.

Dallas, as a matter of fact, had the chance to make it a one possession lead with DeMarcus Cousins at the line with 30 seconds on the clock however failed to make both free throws while Malcolm Brogdon made a clutch and-1 bucket to give the Pelicans the lead.

Dallas now fall to 6-5 for the season and are currently 7th in the West with just 3 games remaining in the regular season.

Mavericks survive fourth quarter scare, gets back to winning ways

                                March 27, 2020 | by NBA News

Chris Paul almost single-handedly caused Dallas to blow its' second consecutive game with them leading by as much as 22 points. However, Paul's heroic efforts fell short, bringing the deficit to within 7 points before the momentum shifted back to the Mavericks.

Unfortunately, outside of Paul, everyone else on the Clippers failed to show up, combining on just 27% from the field. CP3 finished with a game high 32 points but a season-low 2 assists, which further indicates just how bad his teammates were.

For Dallas, John Wall led the way with 25 points and 13 assists as he steered the team back on its' course in what would have been another fourth quarter collapse for the Mavs.
