        First-Round Recap

        April 14, 2022 | by NBA News

        (4) Dallas Mavericks vs. (5) New Orleans Pelicans

Despite missing Anthony Davis for the season due to a stress fracture on his lower leg, the Pelicans put up a fight and made the Mavericks work for every possession. Ultimately, they would fall short, losing 95-103.

John Wall led Dallas in scoring with 23 points along with 10 assists. DeMarcus Cousins struggled offensively, shooting just 6/15 from the field and finishing with 18 points. However, it was his impact on the defensive end that helped the team with victory. Cousins racked up 15 rebounds, 3 steals and 5 blocks. During the press conference, Cousins addressed his focus on other aspects of the game to impact the score. "I mean I knew that if my shots weren't falling, I had to do something else. Otherwise coach might as well sit me. There was no way in hell I was going to drag the team down and I wanted to do whatever I can to help even if I'm not scoring."

                Conference Semifinals Recap

                April 17, 2022 | by NBA News

                (1) Golden State Warriors vs. (4) Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks started the game hot, outscoring the Warriors in the first quarter 37-24. However, Golden State slowly came back, chipping away the lead in the second and third quarter. But it was late in the third where the momentum went back and forth for both teams.

Steph Curry picked up his 5th foul whilst Serge Ibaka received his 4th in a tightly called game. However, Steve Kerr made a bold move, electing to keep Curry on for the remainder of the game. It backfired, as Curry would later foul out of the game in the fourth quarter with 4 minutes to go. He finished with 24 points and 10 assists, but was woeful from the outside, knocking just 4/17 shots. Ibaka would soon follow, fouling out with 3 minutes to go. He continued his Playoff dominance, ending the game with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.

But it was all Kevin Durant whom the Warriors relied on in the clutch, as Dallas simply had no answer to stop him. With just under a minute to play, Durant hit the dagger jump shot, giving the Warriors an 8 point lead that would ultimately prove too much for the Mavericks to overcome, winning 119-111.

Durant finished with a game high, 32 points, whilst also grabbing 10 rebounds.

As for the Mavericks, despite having four starters scoring over 20 points, they simply couldn't get any production from their bench, with all 7 points coming from Marcus Smart.

It will now be an interesting summer for the Mavericks with Serge Ibaka and Marcus Smart becoming unrestricted free agents, along with their other bench players in Chandler Parsons, and A.J. Hammons.

                (6) Phoenix Suns vs. (7) Denver Nuggets

The Suns will advance to the Western Conference finals, for the first time since the Steve Nash era, thanks to a team effort led by their frontcourt duo, Mohamed Bamba and Dragan Bender. Bamba racked up 19 points and 14 rebounds while Bender tallied 17 points, 8 rebounds and a pair of steals and blocks.

                Box Score
                Spoiler

                (1) Philadelphia 76ers vs. (5) Washington Wizards

With majority of the team struggling offensively, the 76ers just scraped through behind Jahlil Okafaor's dominating performance, scoring 20 points on 10/13 shooting.

                Spoiler

                (2) Miami Heat vs. (3) Cleveland Cavaliers

For the first time, LeBron James faced the Miami Heat in the Playoffs, coached by his close buddy, Dwyane Wade. However, there was no love lost as James was all business, scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds. He was helped by Kyrie Irving, who finished with 33 points, 7 assists and 4 steals.

Stephen Curry was lightin' it up, dropping 34 points, 7 rebounds, 18 assists and 4 steals. Kevin Durant also filled the state sheet with 25 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and 5 blocks, as the Warriors combined for an impressive 53/91 shooting.

                  (1) Philadelphia 76ers vs. (3) Cleveland Cavaliers

With the game going right down to the very end, it was the 76ers that edged out the Cavaliers, winning 102-101.

Jahlil Okafor led with 27 points and 7 rebounds, while Džanan Musa and Pascal Siakam were instrumental off the bench, scoring 15 and 11 points respectively.

Unfortunately for the Cavs fans, the loss marks the end of an incredible season for MVP, LeBron James, who went down swinging, posting 32 points, 11 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks. As for leading scorer, Kyrie Irving, it was a game he'd rather much forget, posting a season low 7 points on just 2/6 shooting. Irving was marred with foul troubles all night and could not get anything going offensively.

NBA Finals: (1) Philadelphia 76ers vs. (1) Golden State Warriors

                    April 22, 2022 | by NBA News

The Golden State Warriors have won their 8th NBA title in franchise history after defeating the Philadelphia 76ers, 117-102.

Chef Curry was in full effect, cooking up with 44 points and 8 assists on 17/26 shooting. He was easily voted as the Finals MVP, his second award of his career. Kevin Durant also played a big part in the win, almost racking up a triple double with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists.

As for the 76ers, they simply couldn't capitalize on the free throw line, making just 9/16 shots. Jahlil Okafor led the team in scoring with 22 points, while Ben Simmons struggled mightily with just 7 points on 3/14 shooting.

Remarkably, the Warriors have now won 5 championships in the past 8 years and will arguably go down as one of the most successful dynasties of all time.

Dwight Howard calls it a career

                      May 12, 2022 | by NBA News

Dwight Howard has officially retired from the NBA at the age of 36 after announcing in a press conference this afternoon.

Howard, whose career spanned for 17 years, will finish with career averages of 17.3 PPG, 12.5 RPG and 2.0 BPG in 952 games played. He most recently played with the Cleveland Cavaliers but his most dominant years were with the Orlando Magic, with whom he was a 3x Defensive Player of the Year and 5x 1st Team All-NBA. Howard was easily Orlando's best big man since Shaquille O'Neal and carried the Magic to the 2009 NBA Finals, where they would eventually fall short at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Joining Howard in this years' list of retirements is Tony Parker, who last played in the NBA in 2020 for the San Antonio Spurs. Parker played 1135 games, all with the Spurs, and averaged 16.2 PPG and 5.9 APG. He won 4 championships, including a Finals MVP, and was a 6x All-Star.

Below is the full list of player retirements as announced by the league officials yesterday morning.

Thunder wins consecutive lottery, gets #1 pick

                        July 4, 2022 | by NBA News

The Oklahoma City Thunder have some more help coming their way after landing the #1 pick in this years' 2022 NBA Draft. Despite posting the worst record in the league, the Thunder found a future superstar in Matthew Holland, who averaged 20.1 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 8.0 APG and 3.0 SPG in just his rookie season. Now they'll be hoping they can strike gold again and pair him with a potential star, reminiscing OKC fans of the Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook days.

With a 25.0% chance, Oklahoma City was able to secure the top spot while the Pistons made the biggest movement, jumping from 5th to 2nd place.

This years' draft class includes a very intriguing amount of players, with Kentucky's Tyshaun Atkins, LSU's Wilson Thomas, and USC bigman Moses Williams projected to land in the top 3.

Below is the full breakdown of the draft order and the lottery odds prior.

Coaching Changes: Bulls and Celtics swap coaches

                          July 12, 2022 | by NBA News

The Chicago Bulls have acquired head coach, Brad Stevens, from the Boston Celtics in exchange for Doc Rivers, per league sources.

Stevens, had another disappointing stint with the Celtics, posting a below average 6-8 record and failing to reach the Playoffs for another season. Meanwhile, Rivers will be returning to Boston, with whom he won an NBA title back in 2008. However, Rivers was also disappointing during his tenure with the Bulls, posting just a 6-8 record last season. It remains to be seen whether a fresh start for both coaches will entail success with their respective teams.

In other coaching news, it has also been a busy day with a series of coaching transactions.

With rumors of the Thunder considering Kentucky point guard, Tyshawn Atkins, it was USC big man, Moses Williams, that was ultimately selected. Williams had a phenomenal year with USC, posting averages of 20.1 PPG, 12.2 RPG, 3.3 BPG, and was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year. Williams will pair with reigning Rookie of the Year, Matthew Holland, to form a lethal 1-2 punch that will surely light up the league in years to come.

In other news, Dallas made a big gamble, trading away Harrison Barnes in exchange for Paul George, who is on the last year of his deal and with no guarantees that he'll be staying put long-term. With the Mavericks failing to reach the Conference Finals, after winning the title a year ago, GM Donnie Nelson had seen enough and pulled the plug. It's widely expected that the trade for George was in part to match-up against the Warriors, specifically Kevin Durant.

Furthermore, the draft saw the Raptors going into full rebuild mode as they traded away their starting backcourt in DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry. Both players were shipped to the Jazz, whom now look to contend with such a deep roster already consisting the likes of Markelle Fultz, Gordan Hayward, Michael Porter Jr. and Rudy Gobert.

Below is the full breakdown of deals that went down during the draft along with the draft selections from each team.

                              Pacers trade: Paul George
Mavericks trade: Harrison Barnes, Justin Anderson, Anthony Morrison, 2025 first-round pick

Trail Blazers trade: 8th overall pick
Suns trade: Marquese Chriss, Kent Bazemore

                              Jazz trade: 12th overall pick
Raptors trade: DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry

                              Bucks trade: 17th overall pick
                              Raptors trade: Evan Fournier
