After trading for Paul George, the Mavericks pretty much did not have enough flexibility at all to retain all of its' free agents. As such, Marcus Smart's value was simply too high as he signed a more lucrative offer with the Magic for 3yrs, $41.70M. But all was not lost, with Dallas bringing back defensive anchor, Serge Ibaka, and sharpshooters, Tim Hardaway Jr., Chandler Parsons, and Wesley Matthews. On top of that, they found a viable replacement at the point guard in Jrue Holiday, as well as big man Diamond Stone.
No real shock movement in this years' free agency, with the only surprise coming from the Knicks who waived Carmelo Anthony. President Phil Jackson acknowledged Anthony's request to move on in order to find a team willing to give him a more consistent role. As such, he signed with the Memphis Grizzlies on a two-year deal.
You can see other notable player movements in free agency below.

Can Paul George mesh in time and bring Dallas back to the promise land? | Bobby Karalla-USA TODAY Sports
With the Mavs 2022-23 schedule released on yesterday morning, Dallas will be opening their 43rd season at home against the rising Phoenix Suns.
Dallas will then travel to San Antonio to face the Spurs on November 12.
On February 6, the Mavericks will get their first crack of the season against the NBA champions, Golden State Warriors, in a rematch of last season's Conference Semifinal.
Dallas will then conclude their regular season on the last day against the Portland Trail Blazers on April 10.
You can see the full schedule below.

2022-23 Season Preview
After a tough loss to the eventual champions, the Golden State Warriors, it was clear the inconsistency of the roster needed a shake over. As a result, GM Donnie Nelson made to bold move to trade away the Mavs two most tenured players in Harrison Barnes and Justin Anderson. In exchange, they received All Star, Paul George, to pair with DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall and form a legitimate trio core.
However, acquiring PG13 and his $35.22 million contract came at a huge risk. For starters, he is technically on a one-year rental with no indications for any long-term commitment so far. On top of that, Dallas had very little wiggle room, and as a result, weren't able to retain all their players back. They did manage to re-sign Serge Ibaka, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Chandler Parsons, but lost a big hole in their second unit with Marcus Smart gone.
On paper, the Mavericks bench looks very thin, filled with past prime players in LaMarcus Aldridge, Chandler Parsons and Jrue Holiday, mixed with an unproven signing, Diamond Stone, as well as three rookies, Bronx Johnson, Chevon Best and Kenny Guzman.
Overall, the Mavericks seem poised to rely heavily on their starters due to the lack of depth on the team as health will be an utmost importance on how far they go this season.

Mavericks edge past Suns behind George's big fourth quarter
October 31, 2022 | by NBA News
After struggling for most of the the first three quarters, Paul George turned it on in the fourth, scoring 14 of his 19 points, including the three-point dagger that gave Dallas a 6 point lead with just 28 seconds left in the game. After the game, DeMarcus Cousins praised George's efforts late in the clutch. "I mean, that's why we went and got him, you know. He's a serial assassin no matter if he's shooting 0/30."
Cousins led the team in scoring with 26 points and 11 rebounds while John Wall fared well with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Perhaps one of the bigger surprises was rookie, Bronx Johnson, whom was drafted 22nd overall in this year's draft, dropping 15 points. He'll certainly be a welcomed addition for the Mavericks as they'll need everything from the wing position considering how thin their bench is.
Meanwhile for the Suns, Mohamed Bamba continued his breakout performance from last season, stuffing the stat sheet with 27 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 blocks. He'll look to solidify his name as one of the top centers in the league as he hopes to get his first All-Star nod this season.

John Wall's historic night powers Mavericks past the Spurs
November 12, 2022 | by NBA News
In a game where both sides committed a combined 40 turnovers, it was the Mavericks that edged out the Spurs, winning 99-92.
John Wall was the highlight man tonight, as not only did he racked up a triple-double with 19 points, 18 assists and 11 steals, but he also broke a few records along the way. He surpassed Michael Finley's franchise record of 10 steals and tied the league record of 11 steals, joining the likes of Larry Kenon and Kendall Gill, with the latter notching that feat over two decades ago.
However, after the game, a clearly focused Wall had more important things on his mind whilst addressing the media. "Man, we almost came close to losing this one. That's what I was concerned about the whole time. I mean, sure the stats are nice, but it don't mean a thing without the W and I'm just glad we got it done."

Mavericks trounce Kings with fourth quarter dominance
November 26, 2022 | by NBA News
Dallas was able to come from behind to defeat Sacramento, 106-92, thanks to a strong fourth quarter performance where they held the Kings to just 14 points while dropping 35 points.
The win also saw Paul George breaking out of his shooting slump and knocking 5/9 from downtown. He finished with a game-high, 32 points, while John Wall continued his strong start to the season with 19 points, 12 assists and 3 steals.

Re: The Association: Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks are having a great time this season. They should go in search of the title led by Paul George and John Wall. Speaking on the PG of the team, Wall managed to stagger 11 steals, made sensational!
I'm sorry for my English. I had to ask Google Translate for help.Comment

Dallas too good for OKC, wins 102-92
December 10, 2022 | by NBA News
With news of Chandler Parsons expected to be sidelined for up to 2 months due to his ongoing knee troubles, the Mavs starters knew they couldn't take any shortcuts as Wall, Cousins and George answered the call to combine for 81 points.
There was no stopping Cousins, with a game-high 30 points, as he bullied down low against number 1 pick, Moses Williams. Last year's Rookie of the Year, Matthew Holland, also couldn't get into rhythm all night as a result of foul troubles. He finished admirably with 20 points but shot just 7/20 from the field and committed 7 turnovers.
The Mavericks are now 4-0 to start the season but they've got to start looking over their shoulders with recent news of Utah acquiring Bradley Beal, and the Nuggets trading for All-Star forward, Jonathan Isaac from Orlando.

Pelicans crush Mavericks on the glass, win 127-104
January 7, 2023 | by NBA News
New Orleans have handed Dallas their first loss of the season thanks to a huge performance by Marques Bolden who pulled down 15 rebounds along with 20 points. The Pelicans combined for 64 rebounds, of which 26 of them were from the offensive end. In turn, they racked up 24 second chance points en route to victory.
As for the Mavs, despite getting good offensive contributions all around, they simply lacked the energy on the other end. After the game, coach Rick Carlisle called out his entire team. "We were lucky to even make it a contest for the first three quarters. We didn't bother to box out, we lacked the intensity on the defensive end, we were too casual. Quite frankly, it's not good enough and the guys know it."

Denver's woeful season continues as they fall short to Dallas
January 13, 2023 | by NBA News
The Nuggets have now suffered their fourth defeat of the season, losing to the Mavericks 101-112. They have now fallen into a deep hole with a record of 1-4. After such a promising offseason with a loaded roster, Nuggets coach Mike Malone is now looking on the other end of the spectrum, with rumors of his name on the chopping board.
Despite a huge game from DeAndre Ayton (27 points and 21 rebounds) and solid contributions from Nikola Jokic, and newly All-Star acquisition, Jonathan Isaac, it wasn't enough as they got minimal help from their backcourt, combining on just 8/28 shots.
For the Mavericks, it was a nice bounce-back game after the recent defeat to the Pelicans. DeMarcus Cousins was simply unstoppable, scoring a game high, 39 points, to go with 16 rebounds and 4 blocks.
