George continues to roll, torches Jazz for season-high, 33 points

    February 27, 2025 | by NBA News

Despite starting the game ice cold, making just 2 of his first 10 shots, Paul George came alive in third quarter, dropping 18 of his 33 points, whilst knocking down 13/15 from the free throw line.

Coincidentally, George was also phenomenal on the defensive end, limiting Michael Porter Jr. to just 16 points on 6/16 shooting. His determination trickled down the rest of the team as Dallas' suffocating defense led to their 30-16 dominance in the second quarter, and then again in the final quarter, holding the Jazz to just 18 points as they cruised their way to a 19 point victory.

The Mavs have now equaled the total amount of wins they had last season at 7 but coach, Rick Carlisle, was quick to dismiss the accomplishment. "We don't want a repeat of last year, where guys started to take their foot off the gas. I'm sure everyone knows it but we've got to come into every game as if it's a do-or-die situation because you never know how these things can turn out."

Wall erupts in third quarter as Mavericks' winning streak extends to 5

      March 13, 2025 | by NBA News

With Kawhi Leonard still sidelined with a stress fracture, Dallas looked to have control from the very start, winning 96-89.

But it wasn't until the third quarter when the margin really separated. With a 29-21 outing in the third sparked by John Wall, there was simply no coming back for the Spurs. Wall did a little bit of everything, racking up 19 points, 15 assists, 5 steals and 3 blocks, while DeMarcus Cousins led the team in scoring with 23 points.

The win now puts the Mavericks in contention for the number one seed with a 8-2 record, and they'll look to keep the streak going as they next face the Grizzlies, whom also have a winning streak of their own at 6 straight, in a fiery battle for division supremacy.

Mavericks annihilate Grizzlies, en route to 6th straight victory

        March 20, 2025 | by NBA News

In what was supposedly a battle of the two top Southwest Division teams, turned out to be a massacre as Dallas crushed Memphis, 123-80.

Paul George was simply unguardable tonight, scoring 35 points along with 12 rebounds, while DeMarcus Cousins patrolled the paint with a season-high 6 blocks to finish with 18 points and 8 rebounds.

Since his scoring slump, George is now averaging a roaring 29.8 PPG over his last 4 games, knocking down 14/30 from three-point. He spoke with reporters briefly after the game, citing the defensive efforts from the team as his main beneficiary. "Nothing's changed for me personally. It all starts on defense. I mean, my teammates have been incredible this season, and its' resulted in easy fast break buckets for me."

Whether it's the acquisition of Wenyen Gabriel and Steven Adams or the MVP performances from John Wall, George may have a point as the Mavericks boast the second best defense in the league, holding opponents to just a 41.9% field goal percentage, whilst also containing three-point shooting to 25.5% - a league best. They've also been crushing teams on the scoreboard, ranking #1 in points differential with 11.4.

Tonight's win now moves Dallas comfortably into first place in the West with a 9-2 record, and have all, but locked the Southwest Division title.

            Suns blow out Mavericks,
            snaps their six-game winning streak

            March 27, 2025 | by NBA News

Thanks to a 32-19 outing in the second quarter, the Phoenix have ended Dallas' winning run with a 116-97 victory.

The battle for the boards was the story tonight with the Suns crushing the Mavs with 20 offensive rebounds and converting those opportunities into 17 second chance points. The Mavericks also did themselves no favors, turning the ball 19 times, and thus, allowing the Suns to score an additional 22 points off turnovers (18 points from fast breaks).

Lonzo Ball steered the way with 12 points, 14 assists and 3 steals while Mohamed Bamba came alive in the third quarter, finishing with 18 points and 17 rebounds.

The win now moves the Suns closer to securing a playoff spot with a 7-5 record. Meanwhile, Dallas (9-3) is now on the edge of losing the #1 seed with Oklahoma City (8-3) right up their tale. Thankfully for the Mavs, they do have the tiebreaker over the Thunder after defeating them earlier in the season.

Mavericks bounce back, destroy Clippers, 127-92

              April 10, 2025 | by NBA News

Dallas has officially clinched a spot in the playoffs after a controlling performance from their stars. They did their damage in the second and third quarter, outscoring the Clippers, 76-42, before sitting the entire fourth.

John Wall was sensational, contributing 27 points, 14 assists and 3 steals. Meanwhile, Paul George scored 19 points while DeMarcus Cousins had 17 points and 14 rebounds as Dallas scorched L.A from the three-point line, shooting 12/24 attempts.

As for the Clippers, it was a night to forget for All-Star, Dejounte Miller, who recorded a season-low, 4 points, on just 2/11 from the field. He'll look to bounce back in the regular season finale with a playoff spot still on the line for the Clippers.

The win tonight for the Mavs now ties them with Oklahoma City for the first seed, and with the final game against Golden State just a couple of days away, coach Rick Carlisle would not commit whether he would play his star veterans. "We have to be smart about this and do what's best. We'll see how the guys feel tomorrow. Obviously having home court advantage is always preferred, but at the same time, these guys have clocked a lot of mileage so we'll see."

                Re: The Association: Dallas Mavericks

Good to see the Mavs bounce back! Looks like PG13 still has his groove on, which is good for the team. That 1st seed might be important, but I think it comes down to matchups -- would you rather be on the other side of the bracket as the 2nd seed?

What are the rest of the playoff spots looking like as we approach the end of the season?

As usual with a shortened season, it's a close seeding.

We have OKC and Dallas tied first and second with 10-3.

The Grizzlies are next with 9-4, followed by the Jazz at 8-5.

From seeds #5 to #9 (Clippers, T'Wolves, Nuggets, Pelicans, and Suns), it all comes down to the final game as they're all tied with a 7-6 record. Unfortunately, one of those teams will miss out.

                  The following teams have already been eliminated;
                  GSW: 6-7
                  SAS: 6-7
                  HOU: 5-9
                  LAL: 4-9
                  POR: 3-10
                  SAC: 2-11

Hmm. Looks like the 1st seed is where you want to be, based on those standings. Aim for homecourt and hope for the best.

Hows Bronx Johnson been for you anyways? In my league, he was drafted 18th I think and hes just not doing much as I hope he would. I even thought about picking him up.

Yeah, he's been average so far. I haven't really had much opportunities to play him in a more expanded role because of Paul George but he's very athletic and seems to have the potential to be a good defender. I'm trying to mold him to become a 3&D guy, giving him offseason training in outside shooting. I think so far I've got his 'Open 3PT shot' to around 73 or so.

If I had to compare him to someone, it would be a very poor man's Andrew Wiggins.

That's a good comparison I think. As a big follower, hopefully when dc3 comes out (whenever it does, lol) you use it in this dynasty so I can see how the class is. But love your team so far!

Dallas' Big 3 starts as they ease past Golden State, 104-88

                            April 14, 2025 | by NBA News

With much uncertainty leading up to the game, it wasn't until a few minutes before tip-off when Mavs coach, Rick Carlisle, confirmed that his trio stars would indeed play.

It turned out to be the right call as the Warriors, whom have been knocked out of the playoffs, did not go down without swinging, matching the Mavericks to a tightly contested first half with the Mavs barely leading, 52-51.

However, Dallas made their breakthrough in the third quarter, withholding the Warriors to 11 points whilst giving themselves a 19 point buffer heading into the fourth.

DeMarcus Cousins was too strong in the paint as he went on to score 26 points (11/15 FG) and 11 rebounds while John Wall supplied 21 points and 11 assists.

For the Warriors, they're now most likely pondering a rebuild after missing the postseason for the first time since 2012. It remains to be seen what they'll do with Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson, all of whom are at the twilight of their careers.
