    Re: The Association: Dallas Mavericks

Valuable rest for the veterans and an equally good win, even if it got too close at the end. I expect Dallas to thrash Utah in their matchup.
    Any comments are welcome.

        First-Round Recap

        April 16, 2026 | by NBA News

        (3) Dallas Mavericks vs. (6) Utah Jazz

In a much tougher match than their last, the Mavericks had to come from behind to defeat the Jazz, 129-121. It took a 42-33 fourth quarter performance to power past a more determined Utah team, whom controlled the boards all night, racking up 13 offensive rebounds, and scoring 14 second chance buckets.

After receiving his trophy prior to the game, Ben Simmons showed the league why he was the MVP, leading the Mavs with 29 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. Meanwhile, DeMarcus Cousins who was rested in their previous meeting, hauled down 21 points and 11 rebounds whilst John Wall chipped in with 18 points and 13 assists.

In his post-game press conference, Simmons spoke highly of the Jazz, after admittedly letting their guard down early on. "They're always a tough matchup no matter what. I think he got a little too comfortable after the first quarter. I mean you saw what happened the game last week when we played them. They can erase a double-digit lead in an instance. When you got guys like Fultz, Porter and Romero, there's never an option to take a breather."

          Conference Semifinals Recap

          April 19, 2026 | by NBA News

          (3) Dallas Mavericks vs. (2) Los Angeles Clippers

With the game virtually neck-and-neck, it wasn't until the final quarter where the Mavericks began to separate themselves. This time, it was the unsung heroes, Steve Lever and Bronx Johnson, that sparked the run, leading the Mavericks to outscore the Clippers 31-19 in the fourth quarter, thus winning 110-93.

Lever finished with a game-high, 20 points, hitting 4 triples from beyond the arc, while Johnson did it on both ends of the floor, racking up 16 points, 3 steals and 2 blocks. With both players set to hit free agency this summer, it'll definitely be tough for Dallas to retain both players unless they're willing to break the bank.

Meanwhile, John Wall continued his stellar performance in the postseason, scoring 18 points along with 12 assists and 3 steals.

The Mavs will now head back to their second straight trip to the conference finals, however, coach Rick Carlisle, dismissed the feat, stating that there is still plenty of work ahead. "We're taking it one step at a time and not trying to get ahead of ourselves. I mean, we're only half-way through and there is still another 48 minutes of basketball to be played before we can even think about the finals."

          (5) Minnesota Timberwolves vs. (8) San Antonio Spurs

After their big upset win over the Nuggets, the Spurs' fairytale story was short-lived, falling to the Timberwolves, 103-112.

Harry Giles and Karl-Anthony Towns combined for 53 points, 27 rebounds and 8 blocks.

          (1) Charlotte Hornets vs. (5) Miami Heat

Not even Isaiah Pondexter's brilliant postseason could stop Charlotte, despite scoring 22 points, as the Heat were thumped by the Hornets, losing 92-111.

Tim Potter continued to lead the scoring with 19 points, while Most Improved Player, Sean Jean-Charles, was huge off the bench, pouring in 17 points and 6 assists.

          (2) Boston Celtics vs. (3) Philadelphia 76ers

The Celtics were simply too good against the 76ers, comfortably winning 108-94.

Russell Warner was once again impressive, scoring 30 points along with 5 assists and 3 steals. Jaylen Brown also stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks.

            Re: The Association: Dallas Mavericks

Clippers losing in the second round? Good to see some things still hold true.

The Mavericks seem to be hitting their stride at exactly the right time, but that matchup with Minny will be tough. Giles and Towns looked dominant in that last game.

Disappointed to see the 76ers lose -- was really hoping for a Mavs/76ers Finals, that would have been ripe for a story line.

              April 22, 2026 | by NBA News

              (2) Dallas Mavericks vs. (5) Minnesota Timberwolves

It was an epic first half showdown between Ben Simmons and Karl-Anthony Towns, with the two superstars trading bucket after bucket. The Timberwolves got off to a solid start, leading by 4 points at the half thanks to Towns' 22 points. At one stage, they even led by as much as 16 points, however, Dallas was able to claw themselves back behind Simmons' 23 points.

By the third quarter, things began going south for Minnesota, with Harry Giles fouling out early. After already missing Andrew Wiggins due to injury, the Timberwolves continued to solely relied on Towns to run the offense. But Dallas seemed to have found an answer in rookie Clayton Karnowski. The 33rd pick was instrumental on the defensive end, limiting Towns to just 8 points in the second half. Karnowski even closed out the game, with Rick Carlisle electing to sit starter, DeMarcus Cousins, instead. Karnowski's performance was particularly in full display during the fourth quarter, helping the Mavs to a dominating 38-21 run, and in turn, cruising past the Timberwolves by 17 points and en route to their second consecutive finals appearance.

Ben Simmons led the way with 37 points and 14 rebounds, while Bronx Johnson and John Wall both contributed 23 points each. As for the man of the hour, Karnowski finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. After having not appeared in a single game until the second half of the season, Karnowski is shaping to be the steal of the draft with Portland undoubtedly regretting cutting him during training camp.

In the post game press conference, veterans John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins praised the rookie for his big night. "He's a big time player man. He's worked so hard to get to where he is and he is definitely the reason why we won tonight. He's the future man."

              (1) Charlotte Hornets vs. (2) Boston Celtics

The Hornets looked hungry to get back into the Finals, crushing the Celtics by 20 points.

Jarell Benson led the team in scoring with 20 points on 9/11 shooting, whilst also doing an outstanding job guarding Russell Warner and limiting him to just 17 points (6/17 FG) as well as forcing him to commit 5 turnovers.

Charlotte will now face Dallas in a rematch of last year's NBA Finals. Only this time, the Hornets will now have home court advantage.

NBA Finals: (1) Charlotte Hornets vs. (3) Dallas Mavericks

                April 24, 2026 | by NBA News

In a rematch of last year's NBA Finals, the Hornets got off to a strong 7-0 run to start the game. Lawrence Howard looked primed for a big night, swatting away Dallas' first two shot attempts whilst Jarell Benson scored all 7 of Charlotte's points. He would finish the game with 22 points (10/21 FG) and 4 assists.

However, the momentum started to shift after an early time-out called by Mavs coach, Rick Carlisle. From there, Dallas started chipping back and eventually closed out the quarter leading 35-27. It was an impressive 15 point swing with Ben Simmons setting the example.

But it did not end there for him, as he would finish the game playing arguably his finest performance of the postseason. Simmons, who failed to make a single three-point shot for the entire season, hit two in this game, as he was absolutely rolling, making his first 7 attempts of the game.

With the remaining three quarters neck-and-neck, it was ultimately the first quarter that was all that separated the two teams with Dallas winning 111-103, thus making it back-to-back titles in franchise history.

Ben Simmons was unanimously named the Finals MVP where he finished with 36 points, 17 rebounds and 9 assists. The award remarks a phenomenal season for Simmons, whom also was named the MVP during the regular season.

In his interview with Doris Burke, a teary Simmons spoke of finally winning his first championship. "Words simply can't describe this feeling. I've wanted this so bad and to finally get it makes the journey, the struggle and everything else all worth it. I want to thank my teammates and coaching staff for putting me in this position to succeed. I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am without them."

The win captivates as the fourth NBA title for the Mavericks in six years, and arguably challenges the Golden State Warriors as one of the greatest teams in the past decade.

                  DeRozan signs off

                  May 12, 2026 | by NBA News

After 16 season in the league, DeMar DeRozan, at the age of 36, announced his retirement yesterday afternoon.

DeRozan, whom last played for the Jazz, made six All-Star appearances throughout his career, with his best year coming in 2019 where he was named to the All-NBA Third Team.

Many will remember DeRozan during his tenure with the Toronto Raptors where he would become their all-time leading scorer, and pairing with Kyle Lowry to form one of the top backcourt duos in the Eastern Conference.

DeRozan leaves behind career averages of 17.8 PPG, whilst appearing in 646 games. He was also a part of the USA gold medal team in the 2016 Olympics, as well as 2014 FIBA World Championship squad.

Below is the full list of player retirements as announced by the league officials yesterday morning.

Damn, George Hill really hung around -- 40!

Nice title with Ben Simmons and the Mavs, looks like he was exactly the right signing for you team. Now the question becomes how much does Dallas need to do in the offseason to have a shot at another title next year?

After 10 years of service with the Dallas Mavericks, vtcha has resigned from his role of advisor. Owner, Mark Cuban, broke the news momentarily this morning as he addressed the Dallas media.

"It was one helluva ride since vtcha came to this organization in 2016. And at times, though we never saw eye-to-eye, his bold, rational decisions inevitably changed the culture of our organization. Through all the ups and downs, I definitely felt that his impact has left a bright mark on the future of the franchise.

During his tenure with Dallas, vtcha made a shrewd of gutsy moves, from giving up multiple draft picks to trade for John Wall, to the low-key signings of Serge Ibaka and Tim Hardaway Jr., to the trade for Paul George, as well as the big free agency reels of DeMarcus Cousins and Ben Simmons, it has all resulted to eight Playoff appearances, of whom four were huge successes, winning the Western Conference title and NBA championship.

Since vtcha's arrival, the Mavericks have accumulated a regular season record of 90-50 and 19-4 in the postseason.

vtcha left behind a message on the popular sports gaming website, Operations Sports, thanking the Dallas fans as well as the OS community.
