Re: Halo: Reach

I'm sure the beta feedback will decide which one or if both will stay in the final game. I'm thinking 3rd-person assassinations may be the way to go, as I can see the the one-hit kills from behind along with the armor ability to sprint being really powerful, but of course this is just speculation without having played it.

yes I'm sure the beta will determine a lot, and I'm so glad they're having one not just because I get a taste of Halo Reach early, but because in the end it will help make it a better game *cough* Modern Warfare 2 *cough*

Yeah of course I agree, we shouldn't really judge until we get to play a build of the game, but my blind impression of the situation makes me think that the 3rd-person assassinations should be in and the old melee assassinations should be out.

I couldn't agree more. Online compeptitive mulitplayer games nowadays need to have a public beta I think cause there is just so many people that play them and play them in totally different ways than an internal team would.

Re: Halo: Reach

This weeks update includes some source audio from the AR, DMR, Sniper Rifle, Grenade, Plasma Grenade, and a mystery weapon. Sound has definitely been amplified and that mystery weapon sounds crazy.

Bungie Weekly Update

Quote:
Myth: I read that every weapon in Reach will now be “hit scan.” Hell yeah!

Truth: Here’s the real scoop, straight from Sage Merrill, sandbox Design Lead for Reach:

“Most of the primary human weapons were moved to hit scan while the Covenant weapons remain as various speed projectiles.”

Currently the Magnum, DMR, Assault Rifle and Sniper Rifle are all hit scan, but other weapons such as the Shotgun and Rocket Launcher are, for obvious reasons, not. When the beta hits this spring you’ll be able to get up close and personal and see for yourself.
Quote:
Myth: Sketch called the Falcon, the “Warthog of the Skies.” Does that mean we’re going to get to pilot it in campaign and multiplayer?

Truth: Yup.

Quote:
How extensively will insurrectionists/civilians/other non-military humans feature in the game, dead or alive?

More extensively than ever before.

Re: Halo: Reach

That mystery weapon was nuts!

All the weapon sounds were a big improvement.

Re: Halo: Reach

ViDoc coming this week and maybe more.

Dev post:

Quote:
We can confirm that we'll be there and I can convey my excitement about the event.

As to what we're showing/saying... here are the guidelines we've been asked to follow:

You can confirm that Bungie will be in attendance at X10 showing off Reach
 EXAMPLE: Gearing up for X10 in San Francisco. Can’t wait to show Reach to US and int’l press and kickoff the biggest year in Xbox history! #X10Xbox

You can share when the event is and what readers can expect to see coming out of the event
 EXAMPLE: Be on the lookout on 2/11 – we’ll be showing Reach's first ViDoc to the press at X10 and it will be on Marketplace and web the following morning. #X10Xbox

There will be some stuff coming. Stay tuned.
Dev Blog Launches

Quote:
Hi there,

Welcome to the Halo: Reach development blog, wherein little will be revealed – that’s what marketing’s for – but much will be commented upon. With so much happening on the floor these days we thought now would be a good time to go behind the curtain and give you all a boots-on-the-ground glimpse of the game in development. Whether through a fragment of some cool new piece of concept art, a recap of a multiplayer playtest, or a quick peek at production minutiae (Alpha ZBR, anyone?), we hope you’ll like what you see and get as excited as we are for the release of Reach this fall.

Right now the team is marching steadily toward Beta, fixing bugs, polishing art, fine tuning designs, and the game is getting more stable, beautiful and fun every day. In short, the game speaks for itself, and we look forward to sharing what we can of it with you.

Joe

In the middle of our 4th 3 hour long mission dialogue review. We’re almost done and prepping for recording with the actors. Yes!

Alpha approaches

The team is kicking all sorts of *** this week and we’re rapidly closing in our first big milestone to wrap up our multiplayer alpha. This same code and content branch will eventually evolve into our delta, which is actually the “public beta” you’ll be playing in the Spring.
