I despise gamestop, at least the one by me. The workers all seem impolite and annoying. I went there for the first time in over a year when I got Dragon Age 2 a month ago because I wanted to trade some stuff in and my goodness it was just unpleasant.
They don't tell you how much each trade-in is worth over the phone so you have to bring them in, and then if you feel like you are getting ripped off you're still like obligated to sell it because you went out of your way to go in there.
If I have a recent release that you're only gonna give me five dollars for because you have a bunch of them, I want to keep it. Tell me if I'm not going to get a lot of credit, instead of just adding it to the total.
Then you're just trying to get out of the darn place, and they won't let you leave without committing to shop there for life.
Me: Can I get dragon age 2 for PS3?
GS: Did you preorder it?
Me: No.
GS: Here you go, while your here did you want to preorder anything else?
Me: No thank you.
GS: You sure, I see you've purchased sports games in the past, if your gonna get NCAA 12, you might as well just put five dollars down now to make sure you get a copy when it comes out. (
Like anything other than maybe halo or COD would every completely sell out everywhere.).
Me: Yeah, well that doesn't come out until July, so I'll pass for now.
GS: There are some other big games coming out sooner... Duke Nukem, Brink, La Noire... (The guy then explains to me everything he knows about the games, which isn't much) anything else you'd to preorder?
Me: Not today, if I do I will do it at a later time.
GS: OK... Fair enough, suit yourself. Would you like to become an edge member?
Me: No thank you, I don't shop here enough.
GS: Well, if you buy games the rewards add up... yada yada yada.
Me: nah, that's alright.
GS: (20 minutes after I asked for DA2) Ok, here you go... have a good day.
Then, because I had like 35 dollars of credit left over, I ordered Tomb raider trilogy online like a week before it came out. And it has been 2+ weeks since its release and it's backordered still, so I cancelled the order, and sent customer service a nice email about how displeased I am with their company.
Sorry, End Rant.
On the other hand Amazon is fantastic for games in my opinion. I got a free year of prime because I am a student back last summer, and you get free two day shipping and 3.99 next-day, and free release day delivery. Plus if you preorder from them, you get 10 or 20 dollars in credit towards another game depending on the promotion, they don't charge tax, and most of the time it's like 57.99 or 54.99, so for me amazon saves a ton of money. I can usually get new release 15-25 dollars cheaper than another store. I went through a phase where I bought 20 or so used games that would've cost an arm and a leg at GS or any other store, but I got them dirt cheap at Amazon.
Also, in terms of their trade-in place, you can see how much everything you want to trade is worth before you ship it, so that is nice if you can wait the week it takes for them to receive and add the gift card to your account.
