I'm so stoked for the game. I'm taking the next couple of days off to play and my kid is also super stoked

I think there’s 13 total kingdom hearts games all across PlayStation, Nintendo and mobile platforms.

This game is absolutely gorgeous. I'm not far into it, but I'm loving it so far.

Agreed. Right now I'm kinda in the honeymoon period of seeing the world that I last saw in full graphic detail over 10 years ago (think about it, even the newer games in the series besides the remakes were on handhelds with less power than the PS2). I had a similar reaction to Dragon Quest 11 last year - another series which hadn't seen a main series home console release in the US since the PS2 days. But it really does look pretty - especially with gameplay at 60 FPS (more on that in a bit).

Couple of things:

1) There isn't a lot of lead-in from previous games aside from the cinematic intro unless you go to the "Memory Archive" from the title screen. That wasn't in the 1.00 version of the game either - a 1.01 update came out shortly after midnight that enables that (and the game is now on 1.02). You'll want to be caught up on the story at least to some degree before starting 3 - even I was a little lost on some things. The memory archive is a narrated brief (yes, 17-ish minutes is "brief" in this case) summary of the series up to this point.

2) If you have one of the enhanced consoles, you should be fine leaving the graphic setting on default - it's the 60 FPS option and on the PS4 Pro in the first gameplay world I've not really seen many stutters and dips below that when it's supposed to be 60 (for cutscenes and some other events it locks to 30). I'm guessing the option is there BECAUSE performance might suffer on the regular consoles, and the "stable mode" will lock the whole game to 30 FPS. I started out the game by putting it on stable and was surprised (disappointed?) that it was only 30 until I realized what the option did.

I'll give some thoughts on the gameplay later.
