Re: 2018 Gaming Plans

I’ve completed two games this year so it’s time for an update as I try to clear my backlog and make space for some new titles in 2018.

On the List for 2018 Purchase

Far Cry 5
Red Dead Redemption 2
Detroit: Become Human
Kingdom Come: Deliverance (going to wait until they iron out the bugs and a Steam sale)
(I’m going to assume we dont see Cyberpunk 2077 this year)

Games Finished in 2018

Pillars of Eternity (PC -- Normal) – Act 3/Character Level 12

A spiritual successor to games like Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale with a very good story. It was a challenge to understand all the new concepts the game introduced to the genre like endurance in place of hit points. There’s a meme out there with a picture of a guy sitting at a desk in a library surrounded by thick books with the caption: “Getting ready to jump back into Pillars of Eternity.” That’s appropriate. It did feel like there was a lot to digest in terms of the new combat system. You gained experience from completing quests not from battles which is a great idea because it encouraged dialogue over battles at times. My biggest complaints were that the highest level you could reach was level 12 and the final battle. There’s something about leveling and unlocking new weapons and spells that I’ve always enjoyed. I completed all the story quests on hard until the final battle. I hate it when the difficulty of a final battle is out of whack with all of the preceding battles. It feels like an AI cheat. I’d give it a solid 8.0 out of 10.

Witcher 3 (PC – Blood and Broken Bones) Character Level 35

A epic masterpiece that I struggled to complete on the PC because I was plagued by graphic anomalies, crashes to desktop and bugs. These were the real monsters I faced in this game. I’ve never had a game perform so poorly on the PC and it did take some of the fun away from the experience for me. I’ve played all three games in the trilogy and the characters were some of the most memorable I have played in a lifetime of gaming. The best compliment I can pay about the game is that according to the GOG trophies, 39 per cent of people who have the game finished it. I think that’s an exceptionally high percentage for a modern game. If you haven’t played it, you need to play it. I can’t wait to play the DLC. I'd give the base game a 9.5 out of 10.

Games Purchased in 2017 with Progress

Ghost Recon Wildlands (PS4 – Advanced/Expert) – Level 30/Tier 41, 41 per cent
Assassin’s Creed Origins (PS4 -- Hard) – Level 21, 20 per cent

June = Burnout Paradise Remastered
July = South Park: Fractured But Whole
August = Assassin's Creed Origins
September = Assassin's Creed Origins
October = FIFA 2019
November = NBA 2K19
December = Madden NFL 2019

The first 5 games I've already bought (except Far Cry 5 of course) so I'm definitely playing through them first...installing LA Noire as I type!
With the announcement of Burnout Paradise Remastered, I think I've settled on my 2018 schedule

I am a sucker of remasters as you can see - moving onto Okami tomorrow hoping to finally finish it!

I would also sneak in a "2018 FIFA World Cup" somewhere if and when it gets announced...?

I don't really know what type of game it is, but the cover looked cool and sounds like it's story-based, and I like the fact that it's based on a novel.

I'm excited to dive in and check it out.
Welp, that didn't really work out. The game just wasn't for me. Ah well, that happens. Traded it in towards Bayonetta 1 & 2 on the Switch.

Re: 2018 Gaming Plans

I can now say that Fortnite has been added to the mix...and is taking over all of my gaming time. I was not expecting it to be so addicting!

Re: 2018 Gaming Plans

I only played the free survivor mode and I liked it. But knowing the full game will be free this year keeps me from paying full price to try it out.
