Re: Saints Row Reboot

I like what I’m reading but the trailer didn’t do the game any favors. Not sold on those characters yet.

Re: Saints Row Reboot

As a day 1 fan of the original Saints Row game, I just can't get behind what I saw in the trailer they released. Felt like a wacky version of Watch Dogs 2. When they said reboot I was expecting them to actually focus on making something similar to 1 & 2 because their hardcore fanbase praise those two games. I will only give this a try if it finds its way on Xbox game pass.

Re: Saints Row Reboot

I am disappointed. In this new game the Saints are hipsters college students who decided to turn to crime in order to pay off their student loans. They don't even wear purple anymore the new color is turquoise.

It's Saints Row in name only. Rest in peace Saints Row.

I do think this is a game you have to wait until deeper dives to happen because the trailer didn't do it any justice.

I do think the initial disappointment was that many wanted it to go back to the 1&2 roots, almost like a Remake style Reboot. Whereas, this feels like a blend of 3 and 2. It does make sense with the Saints Row 3 remaster. I get that they don't want to be a GTA Clone. But, it doesn't really feel like "Saints Row". I do agree with a post above about a wackier Watch Dogs. I don't mind the the new characters and new location, but it does seem like a different style game.

Re: Saints Row Reboot

If you look at the likes/dislikes on all of the trailer and other announcement videos from major sources like IGN, Gamesradar, Gamespot, etc...every single one of them that I saw has more dislikes than likes. Not a scientific analysis by any means, but it's not something that I have seen before.

I always appreciated how even the early games were a bit zany yet still managed to tell an interesting story with a note of realism and featured great gangster characters. It was over the top ways that GTA hadn't been since maybe the original playstation, and that's what set it apart from GTA for me.

The story reveal so far just seems silly, not in a good way.

Like usual, I basically completely agree with you. I definitely was hoping for the game to be more like the original game, but the theme from the trailer was easily comparable to the third game.

From some of the press members it seems that the trailer does not so the actual game any justice. The few things we have heard from the developers also give off a vibe that there is a disconnect between the trailer and the actual feel of the game.

It is a wait and see approach for me right now. I'll likely get it at some point, but depending on the deeper dives it it may be a day 1 purchase or something I get some time down the line.

The new Saints don't bother me as much. I didn't want them to simply milk the old characters. The idea of millenials going into crime to pay off their student debt is different, but doesn't bother me too much. If the actual gameplay looks to be deep and more like 1 and 2 I'll be happy.

Re: Saints Row Reboot

I agree with the WD2 vibe, thought so too. But you know what? If you like open world games with living breathing worlds more than you care about the story, we should be lucky to get a game like WD2.

I agree about the characters, but this game needs to attract younger fans as well, so I understand why they took that route. But hey - a gang with huge guys who are into muscle cars? Yes please!

As long as the city is fun and alive, and you can have non-stop action outside of missions as well as semi-realistic driving/damage model - count me in!

Now, I still need to see what it looks like on the PS4, as this is the system I play on.

Here's the thing as a long time fan of the series we've seen them do this already before with SR3 and SR4. They added Superpowers to the franchise man and now they're doing it again.

As an old fan of the series it's like walking through your old neighborhood and seeing it become gentrified.
