Red Dead Redemption II: Online (PS4)

I reported this bug on the Rockstar tech support site so hopefully it gets resolved but as of right now I'm unable to even play this game online essentially. At least in regards to doing ANY missions whatsoever. This includes main story or stranger missions. I'm unable to complete any of them. I've reset the game, reset the system, everything. Here's the info I posted to Rockstar...

"After accepting missions from "strangers" in the world there are no tasks to complete (listed at the bottom of the screen), no map markers, nothing. All markers on the map vanish (strangers, main missions, etc.) and other players become transparent. Mission music plays, etc. In other words its as if the mission has registered and begun. However, I have no markers on where to go, no indication of what to do, and even if I did it would not be there for me to complete the mission. Essentially after accepting a mission from a stranger in the game its as if I'm constantly on that particular mission but with absolutely no way to complete it."

Silly questions here but:
1. Is Online included with the game?
2. Do you have to engage with anyone online?
3. Is it just an open world version of RDR2 without the story?

I want to get back into RDR2 but my save is gone and I don't want to redo Chapter 1 over again.
I just want to run amok and dish out karma in the form of traintrack justice.

Yea online is free, but some things will require grinding away or buying things. For example I’ve wanted to become a moonshiner but it was $5.

Their is a little bit of a story at parts but your character doesn’t talk.

I’ve not played much online so that’s all I know
