Re: Major League Baseball 2K6 Review (360)

The gameplay isn't great, but I'd be willing to give it a chance if they'd just get me a version I could actually play. Instead I get banned from their forums for calling a spade a spade. I mean they actually told us to go there for info and we got one update in a week.

I don't post much here but I have to here. This is probably the worst review I've ever seen on any gaming review website. I'm not a 2k fanboy, I don't care if the game gets a 1/10 if it deserves it. Maybe it does.

But, you can't go 2 or 3 paragraphs about the good parts of the game and give it a 1/10.

According to the author:
The fielding is good (its not at all...but he liked it)
online is smooth (everyone I know that has played it online has a 50% success rate)
pitching is good
batting is fun

...yet it gets a 1? How am I supposed to take reviews seriously if a reviewer's impulsive anger is allowed to get in the way?

A 1 out of 10 should mean complete and utter crap. Yes I understand the game can be awesome, but if you can't get past the 3rd inning, all the good stuff means crap. But still, you cannot give a 1 score to a baseball game in which the pitching, batting, fielding and online play is referred to as acceptable or better. I agree that the message is good, probably should have been harsher, but this review makes future scores almost irrelevant.

I love the game, but i can't blame em'. 1/10 is the right score. We're still stuck without a patch.

I agree with you here. I am not HAPPY with this game, but to say is is a 1 out of 10 is a bit wreckless, considering the pull a site of this size can have on whether gamers will buy somethign or not and rely on someone to score games accurately. Yes the freezing thing sucks ( though I never had one issue since I own no HDD) along with some crazy sim stats etc. and poor fielding control, but there are many innovations here (Inside Edge is a fantastic feature) as well as the incredible depth of info you can get on your players, along with some new and innovative ways of pitching and batting that ON THEIR OWN afford this game more than 1 point out of 10 when considering the game OVERALL.

Like he said, "this review makes future scores almost irrelevant"...

I strongly dislike most of the new "innovations" this game has to offer. I don't care about Inside Edge, Swing Stick, Payoff Pitching, etc. I think its all extra crap.

Personally, I completely agree with the premise of the review itself. It has some nice features but overall I'm insulted that the game was even released.

I hate to keep repeating myself, but I'm a little dismayed that a reputable site with as much "pull" (as you stated) as OS has would let a review like this with a SCORE like this be put up. The score and review are completely contradictory.

The game could have been given a proper score and been lambasted at the same time.

No impulsive anger was involved, and I think I made the logic of my scoring pretty clear.

Well ... exactly. I know our score will help some gamers decide on a purchase, and it would be irresponsible to recommend this game until it works. In it's current state, I don't think it's even worth a rental.

Giving the game a high score with a small note that it has some freezing problems? That's wreckless.

We had hired Scott Bedard to do a site redesign and he also did a review for us. He then decided to start a little known site called Game Rankings. Scott, thanks so much for thinking of me after you became a billionaire. Anyway, he did a review for Extreme Watersports and gave it a 5/100:

I just checked our current reviews list - which has gone through a bit of score mangling as we've changed from 100 point scale to 5 to 10 ....

But that was my exact thought process: "What's the lowest score? 2/10 for Wreckless? Damn ... at least that game worked! Gotta go lower than that, then."

I totally agree.

People crying about a review is sad. The game doesnt work. It is a pile of trash and a $60 coaster as far as I am concerned.

And 2K fanboys who are so supportive of the game. Dont you want 2K to IMPROVE ON IT and MAKE IT BETTER? If so, then stop telling them it is good when it clearly isnt. Make a stand and force them to correct their lazy errors.
