T.J.'s Time Machine - Double Dribble

ok here's a question for some of you old school Double Dribble players.

I remember when first playing this game there was supposedly a cheat that would allow you to break the backboard on a dunk.

did anybody ever see that or was it basically a video game urban legend?

i did some research. wonder if this works ...

Break the backboard:
Select Chicago as your team and begin game play. Get possession of the ball, get to the foul line and press Start to pause game play. Press A, B, A, B, Start(2). Then, execute a fast dunk or quick shot.
