OS Roundtable: What Makes a Football Game Successful

Operation Sports' roundtable discussion returns, once again taking a look at the upcoming football titles.

With Madden, NCAA and a new title Backbreaker all on the horizon, there has been some discussion about what features are most important in a football title. This week, the OS Staff as well as some community members take a look at what these features are.

I think for a sports title in general you need to have the total package (gameplay, presentation, atmosphere, robust in game adjustment features, etc). With that being said, the biggest thing left is replay value. You can only play the CPU for so long. A lot of people get into playing online for rank, but many do not. A lot of players get turned off by the style of online play. I am not here to debate the cheese vs sim conflict. I am just stating there are different views. So how do you convince these non-rank seeking guys to shell out 60 bucks? Online franchise! A lot of people want to compete against their friends or other ballers who believe in the same gaming etiquette. But they don't just want to link up for one game and be done. They want it to mean something. No not rank...the chance for a Super Bowl. EA has dropped the ball for WAY to long on this. They should already have a feature so anywhere from 2-32 guys can run a continous league with draft, free agency, retirement, progression, etc matter. Then you can have the best of both worlds...trying to be a better baller and a better GM than your friends. Let's hope this year is the year!
