arcade sports titles are perfect for games who don't have a lot of time to play and need their sports fix.....they do great in arcades (and easy to play for kids and casual gamers) so i don't know why more sports games don't go this route. boxing and nascar would be great, so would NHL, NFL (bring nfl street back!!) and NBA (bring nba jam back!!) too. even MLB, all they have to do is give super mega baseball their license, it's almost a no-brainer imo.

Re: Discussing the Future of Arcade Sports Games

I think arcade titles could become the real destination for competitive online gaming. Instead of trying to be as realistic, they use the arcade style to create a game that provides perfect balance instead of trying and failing to be sim. The biggest problem with sim sports game and competition is that there is still not a sports sim that is accurate enough to not be littered with exploits and issues.

This is basically what EA is doing with MUT. What sim gamers do not understand is that the UT modes create perfect ways to play the sport without being held back by needing every element of real life.

And Have no idea why someone thinks you can't generate extra revenue with an arcade title. Let's say SMB gets the MLB license. They can do a DD like mode with real players, but the gameplay would be that balanced goodness that SMB has.

The question is, would a resurgence in arcade sports games, and an emphasis on competitive play within those help or kill off sim sports on the consoles. On one hand, it would free sim sports games to focus on sim and leave competitive and arcade play to the other games. On the other, we might all be surprised how much of a dent in sales that might produce.
