You could brick a dunk too, I forget if it was the same cutscene and sound, but I vaguely remember something about a weird/cool noise when you'd miss the dunk. The cutscenes weren't a guarantee I think.

Yeah when you missed a dunk it would make a loud BBWWWAAAAANNNNG sound and you knew you had better be getting your butt back on defense.

A true classic. don't forget though if you shot a 3 from the top of the key, you had to be behing those markers, else you wouldn't hear the oooohhoooohhhooh.... SHABANG! sound of a made three pointer

those cut scenes were great. one of the classic smack talking moments in sports gaming history - perhaps only rivaled by Bo Jackson trotting down field with 10 yards on the nearest player.

Good times!
the best of those spots was up in the top corner. there was a shot you could take falling out of bounds that once you mastered you'd hit 99.999 percent of the time.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. This is always a fun column to write. Thanks to the Wii's Virtual Console, I was able to relive my childhood a bit with this game before writing this piece.
