EA: Hardly a Generous Corporation

Very few CEOs in the business world are generous enough to help out a rival company when itís going through a bad time -- John Riccitiello, the CEO of Electronic Arts, is not in that select group of generous CEOs.

Mr. Riccitiello recently explained to attendees at the Dow Jones-Nielsen Media and Money conference in Manhattan, that his companyís effort to buy Take-Two Interactive Software was a way "to help that company get through what has been an uneven profit experience." Please forgive me for being cynical, but I doubt that Mr. Riccitielloís motives for buying Take-Two had anything to do with helping a company out during an "uneven profit experience."

NO, NO, No, it is very necessary. have you played any of EA's recent title's? None are even remotely good. The only one i play is Ncaa cuz i luv college football and it is a down right crappy game. Ha'za to 2k and take-2 them guys truly know how to make some dam good games.

I disagree that if EA had acquired TAKE TWO, it would lose all incentive to continue to produce better games. The fact is the lack of quality games would eventually affect sales. Why would dissatisfied consumers buy newer versions of games when all one would have to do is play older versions and update the rosters?

I think that the end result would be better sports games at least for the short term. EA would/could basically combine the best of both worlds.
In all sports games there are things that EA sports does better than 2k, and vice versa.

However, long term, competition does stimulate innovation.

I've played plenty of EA games lately. Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, NHL 09, Madden 09 ( PS2 ), NBA Live 09, NCAA 09, all ranging from good to great games.

So, yes, I still believe this was a useless rant.

NHL 09 and FIFA 09 beg to differ.
