I'm glad somebody above me mentioned Strat-O-Matic. You want to talk about geek? How about sitting there as a teenager with cards and dice and looking up results on charts while keeping all the stats by hand. Now that's geek. But that's what I did. Yeah, it wasn't computer, but still. Now I continue to play Strat and I continue to roll the dice, only now I input my dice rolls onto the computer game and it keeps all the stats for me. The game is almost 50 years old and is still elegant and enjoyable, and most important, realistic.

I loved Baseball Stars also!! My brother and I would actualy make 6 teams of superstars and then play in the leagues with them. It took a lot of time, but the end made it all worth it.

I used to have a Commodore 64 and Statis Pro Baseball by Avalon Hill (basically a computer version of the board game) was my crack. The game would save your stats but I had five subject notebooks filled with summarized box scores.

Although I love today's games and visuals, nothing beats a good old text-based simulation....

In 1993-94 I played an entire season of NBA Showdown on SNES as the Phoenix Suns, and I wrote down the box scores after every game, and calculated statistical averages by throughout and after the season. How far we have come, thankfully..

In middle school my friend was so addicted to Baseball Stars he would wake up at 5 am on school days so he could play for a few hours in the morning.
