Sorry if I was unclear. Im sure 100% of the profits of the used game goes to the retailer too. The point was they were losing any revenue they can generate from used games if the buyer didn't purchase the online pass.

Possible the Online Pass was providing a barrier of entry to the online aspect of games for 'used gamers' who would have participated in other online micro-transactions via features like Madden Ultimate Team? Funny thing is, that if this is the case, then EA basically shot themselves in the proverbial foot when they put online pass in place, and they're simply removing the bullet.

No... no they didn't.
Like I posted in another thread I seriously doubt they just decided tio "listen" to the gamer and drop it.
They, IMO, simply weren't getting the revenue and dropped it. I also feel there is something in the works that possibly ties into this somehow.
And yes every new game had it and only used games (if the card was already used) needed to have online pass purchased or one purchased if you wanted to take your game and play online , on a different system.

Either way it was a $ decision, not they listened to the gamer decision.
They simply spun it that way.

Not sure about Microsoft, whether they've announced it publicly or just rumor. They haven't even officially announced whether the system will always have to be connected to the internet (although there's an internal memo circulating that dubunks that).
MS also said (Well one of the mid level guys) that used games would be able to play on the 720.
What we need to watch though is how they will play.
They are simply saying used games can play on the systems. While I'm sure (I hope so) that it is like it is now, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if there was some fee to unlock used games... in the works.

Again I highly doubt that but I've been surprised before.

I'll give EA credit for listening when they make Madden what it should be.

When does this take effect? I put in Madden 13 just to see .. and it is still asking for a code for the online pass.

they aren't giving anyone a free ride. either there is gonna be some form of drm, non transf dlc, or not being able to play used games. they are in no way going to let someone play mp off of used games for free. not ea's style. plus they have to answer to shareholder, better believe they will find someway to make up that money. shareholders and ea do not not care about gamers, they care about money, if they drop this, they will find more ways to gain revenue. they can spin it like they are trying to be the good guys, but this is just some wolf in sheep clothing thing going on. they kiss your cheek, just to finger your a**

I knew EA wouldn't just get rid of Online Passes for the fans. Sad man Sad.
