The OS Year-End Awards: Best Indie/Arcade Game of 2014 (Reader's Choice)

The Indie/Arcade Sports Game of the Year category has always been a personal favorite, as many of these games represent the overshadowed games in our genre, at least here in the US. Games which are eligible for this award include any game created by a non-major studio and any major studio games which aren’t considered ‘simulation’.

With that said, here were the best Indie/Arcade games of 2014 according to you, our readers:

Gold - The Golf Club

By a pretty big majority, most of you felt The Golf Club was the easy choice as the best Indie/Arcade game of 2014. Boasting accurate, simulation style golf with social features to allow you to golf against your friends no matter if they were online or not, The Golf Club really appealed to the hardcore golf fan. On top of that our top new feature of 2014, the course creation suite, allowed gamers to create and share their own high-quality and detailed courses with friends to allow for unlimited replayability. And if the kitchen sink wasn’t enough, the team at HB Studios continues to improve the game and add features.

Silver - Super Mega Baseball

Super Mega Baseball is an arcade baseball game developed by MetalHead studios which is surprisingly realistic at times. Be it the quirky umpire voice (“Thats a strike”), or the fun in-and-out gameplay, OS users feel Super Mega Baseball was the second best Indie/Arcade game. The game allows you to play a season mode or exhibition modes with a new take on difficulty in the ego system, which allows you to set your difficulty in increments of one from 1-99.

Bronze - Out of the Park Baseball 15

The perennial reigning world champion in this category is the Out of the Park Baseball series. This year’s game didn’t receive as much praise from us as it typically does, which basically means instead of receiving an all-time classic rating it received a great rating. If you are a baseball fan and interested in the business of baseball at all, you will likely see your hours sucked away by this game. This year’s game brought several new improvements, including a 3D in-game presentation along with UI improvements.

Both Super Mega Baseball and The Golf Club were awesome games. I happened to like Super Mega Baseball more though. I'm glad it at least got 2nd.
