Our Bold 2015 Sports Gaming Predictions (Roundtable)

In 2014, sports gaming brought us simply a lot of twists and turns. Some games, like The Golf Club and Super Mega Baseball came out of nowhere to surprise us all with their high quality. And who expected NHL 15 to flame out as it did?

We also had NBA 2K15 go from the villan, so much so some Twitter users actually tweeted us pictures of their smashed disks, back to the hero by the end of the year -- winning our sports game of the year award. Let's not forget Madden's improbable rise into the top 3 games of 2014 as well.

So what does 2015 have in store? Let's see what our staff thinks:

Chris: I sure hope you're right about NHL 16 this year. NHL was my biggest disappointment in all of gaming in 2014.

Caley: I agree. I mentioned this to a few friends and they scoffed at the idea, but I think it's plausible. Especially in sports where you could have partnerships with card companies like Topps, Fleer, Upper Deck (not sure all of those exist anymore, but you catch my drift.)

If a college football game comes to next gen I'd wet myself. I always felt EAs NCAA football was more immersive than madden.

One thing: please, let NCAA Football 14 be the last college football game as long as possible. If the next version comes out, it would likely be PS4/XB1 exclusive, and I won't have a next-gen console in the forseeable future (not to mention the community support of the '14 version would die out quickly if the series continues).

Don't know why EA seems to shy away from MVP Baseball. Is it the licensing fees? They had a real gem on their hands.

Matthew Coe thanks for mentioning boxing! It seems like boxing gaming gets the stepchild treatment on gaming and sports gaming sites.

EA kept MVP baseball alive as long as possible making 2 ncaa games out of it after it lost the licence however the baseball market for video games is very small and it would be a huge undertaking for then to boot the series up again. Thy literally have nothing to work with unless they want to use there engine they used 8 years ago now. Ontop of that the Playstation already has an amazing baseball game so there market is now cut in half. I doubt ea will ever make a baseball game again unless it's like a 20 dollar game or something.
