Re: What's on your iPod?(The shuffle results)

This is kinda funny. I'm doing a monthly write-up on this very idea. I pick the first five songs and do a write-up about the song, album, and artist. I'll post the latest one I just did:

Without question, music is one of the few things in this crazy, hectic world that is able to connect people in various ways. It's quite amazing in retrospect - how one song can cause the same reaction from someone in Vermont and someone from Japan. And, everyone likes different kind of music.. rap, rock, R&B, jazz, pop, alternative.. the list obviously goes on, however, it's so interesting and unique to see what kind of music people relate to and like and the reasons behind it.

With that, I shall be examining the music that I listen to. In this monthly series of Notes, I will take my musical collection (or at least a small bulk of it) and randomly (oh, how I love iTunes' shuffle) listen to five songs and connect a little information about the artist, song, and anything else I find interesting about the selection. The only exemptions may be if a sound clip from a soundtrack decides to cue up or something else that is minor. So, without anymore waiting...

1. 50 Cent - "Blood Hound (Feat. Young Buck)"
Say what you will about Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, you can't deny the success he has managed to gain throughout his career up until this point. Whether you hate or love him (har), there is a big chance that you at least know of him as an artist and that in itself speaks volumes. "Blood Hound" is featured of 50 Cent's first major album release, Get Rich or Die Tryin' which is truly a great opening statement/album for Ferrari. The track isn't overly impressive (and neither are 50's lyrics on the track), however, the beat is quite engaging and does support the entire album perfectly.

2. Ginuwine - "Same Ol' G"
Good ol' Ginuwine. While Ginuwine definitely has fallen off a bit as an artist (at least in my opinion), his earlier efforts are R&B classics. And, let it be known that Timbaland is an absolutely beast of a producer -- whatever you want the man can provide it and has been doing so for years. This song takes me back to my elementary days and is a look at Ginuwine in his prime.

3. Britney Spears - "Everytime"
I'm not going to even front. I ****s with Britney Spears and I ****s with her a lot. No, she's not the most talented artist to ever grace a sound studio and with all her recent troubles and emotional breakdowns it's extremely easy to make jokes and poke fun at her while she's down. However, Spears can put down some damned good tracks and "Everytime" is a prime example of just that. In fact, it's my second favorite Spears track -- and I'll tell you why: it's one of those songs that emphasizes on emotion. The lyrics are simple, nothing too complex but clear that the listener hears the pain during the bridge. At some point in everyone's life there's a range of emotions that swirls inside during a relationship and "Everytime" is a great song for just those emotions. Thank you Ms. Spears for dropping "Everytime" -- I, for one, appreciate it.

4. T.I. - "Top Back (Remix) (Feat. Young Jeezy, B.G., & Young Dro)"
One quote can sum up this entire song (this or the original for that matter) and that is: "Mannie Fresh?! I got you *****! I'ma show these niggas what to do wit one of ya beats!" Simply put, Mannie Fresh laces T.I. with an absolutely terror of a beat and from that point forward this is one rap song that could simply not fail. To T.I.'s credit, King was a huge success thanks largely due to the great production he got on the album. However, had it not been for the success of King the music world could be saying, "Remember when Ludacris killed the career of that one rapper? What was his name again?" yet T.I. came up big time when he needed to. When I first heard "Top Back" (the original) before the masses had, I knew it would be huge. It simply had too much going for it not to. Mannie Fresh laced beat? Check. Subject matter? Check. Radio friendly? Check. Therefore, it was easy to see why people had their windows down while blasting this track in the summer of '06. Going off the success of the original, T.I. hits the masses with the remix and again.. instant success. To me, the remix is made by Young Jeezy -- I'm not a huge fan of the self-proclaimed Snowman yet he does entertain me greatly but on this track he shifts a bit from his laidback flow and quickly attacks the beat. Truthfully, he kills the entire track with his one verse: "... So you can miss me with that hatin' and that 'he can't rap ****', tell 'em ****** *** niggas wrap they lips around my ****!/Goddamn, my money sick - I need to see a doctor, black on black Bentley call it 'Phantom of the Opera'/Lemon-lime droptop I call it a Sprite, when I pull out the garage you can call it a night!"
Snowman, indeed.

5. Kelly Clarkson - "Anytime"
Kelly Clarkson, the very first American Idol winner and up to this point (and probably beyond) will definitely be the most successful of all the contestants on the reality show. But, let's be honest here -- Clarkson does possess the most talent out of all the contest winners or even winner-ups so it should be to no surprise that Ms. Clarkson is sitting on cloud nine with her success. It wasn't until her sophomore release of Breakaway that the young artist really began to turn heads in the music world but my iTunes decided to go old school and hit me with a track from her very first album. However, as much publicity and accolades that Breakaway gained (and don't get me wrong - they were well-deserved) my favorite Kelly Clarkson song actually is "Anytime" from Thankful. The track portraits Clarkson's talents greatly -- her strong vocals at their best. Unlike Clarkson's other tracks, "Anytime" seems to be natural... even a little 'raw' and it works very well. As Clarkson roars that she will remain there for that special someone.. it's nearly impossible not to join in yourself. Whenever I make a point to showcase Clarkson's abilities and immense talent, I don't go to Breakaway but rather "Anytime"... and that is quite impressive.
