my original news update said man was shot by a cannon during a baby shower

maybe people should stop doing elaborate gender reveals

Was this supposed to be here in the "News that makes you say WTF" thread.

Saw this earlier, though ther article I saw didn't mention it being part of a gender reveal.

yeah, it's only a sign of the apocalypse if the story is ''cannon gives birth to man''

but that story is awful, my son and daughter-in-law in did an exploding reveal for their first-born but thankfully it ended safely. and last year covid stopped them from having one with their second born

Almost all issues/news stories essentially boil down to 1 common thread: narcissism.

I would say that narcissism is the defining characteristic of modern life. Everyone is the superstar of their own universe, and everyone else should care deeply about their political views, their opinions, their day-to-day struggles, their happy/successful moments, etc. etc. etc. The whole world has to recognize whatever they deem important, otherwise it's meaningless. Don't even get me started on gender-reveal parties, and the video-capturing/virality aspect to what should be a private moment....

If you could somehow get rid of (or at least slightly dial-back) the self-centeredness of the modern era, a lot of our societal problems would be improved - not solved forever, but improved. I think a lot of the acrimony and political division stems from everyone existing in their own bubble and modern life leading one to believe that every person is the most important person in the universe.
