I got a question about going for it on 4th down. I ran into this issue sometime in the past and wanted to know where this falls under the rules.

Time left: any time not in the 4th or at the very end of the half.

Score: let's assume it's not a blowout and it's a 1-2 possession game.

Field position: on your opponents 30-40 range.

Distance: 15 yards

Kicker: your kicker sucks

so it's 4th and 15, and you are hovering around the 30-40 of your opponent. there is plenty of time on the clock so this isn't the last play of the half nor is it in the fourth quarter.

is it okay to go for it because your kicker can't make a long field goal?

how about in the 4th quarter and up by less than 7 points?

is it ever okay to go for it with that much distance?

I think it's okay to go for it. Oregon State had the ball with 140 left in the 4th in a tie game and went for it on 4th down. He didn't want to give me the ball back and he was in field goal range.

4th and 15 while up shouldn't be allowed in 3rd quarter period. Maybe 4th & 3 or less but Idk if I agree with such a long distance.
