The new look Oregon State Beavers easily handle the lowly Colorado State Rams 51-10.
The Rams, who are sporting a triple option flexbone attack under their new coach, gave the young Oregon State defense fits during the 1st quarter. They were then able to adjust and shut them down for most of the game while also forcing 3 turnovers.
Oregon State started 4 true freshmen (FS Corey Kilpatrick, SS Dan Swain, RE Trey Johnson, and CB Ryan Bowman) and 1 redshirt freshman (MLB Josh Williams) on D. Two other true freshman (LE Marlon Diggs and ROLB Robert Watts) saw a hefty amount of playing time in the 2nd half.
Kilpatrick was around the ball all game long, racking up 10 tackles with one being for loss. Colorado State didn't pass much, but when they did, Trey Johnson was putting on heavy pressure regardless of only registering one TFL. All of the young players seemed to help make a drastic improvement for Oregon State on defense.
The offense ran very efficiently under QB Rich James, who as a redshirt senior, is just now getting his 1st start under center. Michael "White Lightning" Williams was stellar as ever in the return game, and when he found daylight in the running game, he made things happen.
Oregon State will have Week 2 off, before heading to Reno, to seek a bit of revenge on the Nevada Wolfpack for their Week 1 loss last season.
