Interesting read about the future of the MLB license

Lets face facts EA Sports is going to get the license. Upside better competition will bring out the best in both EA and SCEA. Downside if EA gets it, they may have to skip a year ala NBA Live to have enough development time

If MLB goes third party exclusive again, then there's nothing to worry about as the Show is far superior to MVP with the addition that the MVP team is long gone.
    Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

It all depends on the price MLB wants. I was told by an EA community manager that when 2K got the deal, there was no way on earth EA (or anyone else) could make money from the deal.
I think 2K didn't care as they lost NFL and wanted to establish a major footprint within the sports world.

I'm hoping that the license is open for all developers and no restrictions are put on it.

Totally agree with you but EA has got to want in. Also remember a certain SCEA developer is already at EA Sports. I think its safe to say though in the gaming world competition is what gives us the best product. Instead of the same old cough Call of Duty online cough cough

That's what I'm looking at, Kolbe moving to EA certainly smells like them getting a baseball title. EA knows SCEA develops the best baseball of all-time, so taking Kolbe can certainly help with Madden development, but can help a lot more with a new baseball game development

I better give Kolbe a call and talk to him to tell him he's been hoodwinked!

He was under the impression that after 14 years of developing baseball....he was looking for the opportunity to try something new. ....like football!

As long as The Show continues to exist, I could care less.

Said it before and (right now) will say it again..
Give me all the baseball games you can. I'll play and support them if they give me enjoyment regardless of who makes them.

In any case I'm VERY happy with what I have now with The Show (since the latter 989 versions) and what I really need now is a great FB game.

MLB The Show into a striking rarity: a sports video game capable of selling a console. A diehard baseball fan without a PlayStation 3 has had only one satisfactory option: buy one. Those with a PS3 are extremely unlikely ever to move.
Many on this site can attest to this - 2007 is when I bought my PS3 for the Show. I think this a testament to the development team that continually improves our gaming experience with the sport of baseball even though there is virtually zero competition.

The Show is a system seller - that puts the show in rarefied company, not to mention there is no other sports game that can claim this. Bravo SD Studios, bravo!

I can honestly say I would not have bought a PS3 as soon as I did if it wasn't for The Show. I'm sure I would have bought one eventually but never would I have dropped 600.00 if it wasn't for The Show, period.

I think we can all agree that there should be no exclusive licenses. That anyone that wants to make a sports game should have that right. I played both Madden and NFL 2K. I played both MVP and the old 989 series. I would play them both again if I had the chance.

Competition is always good. Ideally 2k continues and greatly improves their game to provide the show with some serious competition. If not, we will continue to hear "not enough people play that mode" from the developers.

Yeah, having just bought a PS3 for The Show, I'd still hate to see 2K go under and stop making baseball games. Competition can only be a good thing.

Ditto for me. Just switched to the PS3 about a month and a half ago for the sole purpose of being able to play The Show.

Agree with all posts --- PS3 was purchased only for MLB The Show...
