What Are The Best PC Baseball Games?

I love Baseball and playing simulation Baseball (MLB) games. The problem is to have enough time and money to pick the best games.
I would like to get opinions on what other people feel are the best games on the market.
I'm trying to get as much quality information on Baseball games as I can before I make any further purchases.I hope this will help other people too.
Some of the games I'm interested in are.
OOTP,have OOTP 14 and find it a little hard to fully understand all the things you can do but still love this game.OOTP is truly a Baseball universe.I've pre-ordered OOTP 15.
Digital Diamond Baseball is a good game that gives you a lot for your money have version 4.
Pennantchase.com is an excellent site that you can play in on line leagues for free or by donating to the site.
I have Action PC Baseball 14,it's a good game but in my opinion not as good as I expected.
I've only played Strat O Matic Baseball on line,I thought it was excellent. As for the windows game I know it can be more expensive then the other games but it looks great.
Baseball Mogul was fun to play from the demo I tried but I don't know much about this game.

Re: What Are The Best PC Baseball Games?

I have played a number of these games, so I will weigh in:

    1. OOTP is great fun and really the only game of it's type that does the "franchise" type of gameplay well. I find watching the games and going through a season through all 162 games to be a bore though. This is one that I liked to sim the games and then build my team

    2. Action PC Baseball - seems fine, just ok. Games got boring hitting the buttons. I prefer Stratomatic.

    3. Stratomatic - Strat is great. I love rolling the dice manually and seeing the results on the card image. I love looking at a player card and getting a feel for how good of a year they had without actually looking at their numbers. The one downside is it is cost prohibitive. To me Strat is the choice if you want a single season sim. If you get it, get it with the card image, it makes a difference. Once you start building a library of seasons, then you can open it up to lots of interesting possibilities by mixing and matching players from different eras or doing a tournament between great teams.

OOTP takes a bit of commitment to get into but it is totally worth the effort if you're a front office baseball junkie.

In Strat, is there an option to play a season with trades taking place as they happened automatically?

It's been a while, but there used to be an "as played" setting that you could use. It would replicate all of the lineups and pitching matchups exactly like they occurred irl, including any trades. Not sure if this is still in though.

                    OOTP for you for sure.
It IS a front office BB game first IMO.
It does that portion of the business of baseball excellent.

I used to love Front Page Sports Baseball 98 on the PC! I have never played OOTP, might have to try it. I do have an older PC, around 7 years old, it should be able to run OOTP right? I have no clue when it comes to those things

A weaker processor will hang a little bit during some bits due to the nature of the game. The game does massive number crunching and that primarily relies on your CPU.

In theory it should work as long as you have a decent 7 year old computer... it just won't be as quick as if you played it on a i7 or something higher end.

I have OOTP 14 and I think its one of the best games I've ever played. So deep. It is a little intimidating at first but once you get into it, the depth and ability to edit it the way you want is sweet. I see something new that I didn't know was an option almost everyday I play it. I would recommend it very highly to anyone that doesn't need to watch actual gameplay but loves all the strategy and front office stuff of baseball.

Personally I really like the card image feature that Strat has. I used to play the board game years ago, so it gives me the connection with that version. The problem with OOTP for me anyway is that it just gives me a result which although realistic, doesn't 'show' me how the result came about. imo, seeing the card image makes me feel like the result i'm getting is more genuine with how the game was designed.
