NBA Live 18 vs. NBA 2K18 - Graphic Comparison

Someone needs to explain this to me seriously.

Am I going insane or does NBA Live 18 look A LOT better than NBA 2K18 from a graphics standpoint?

Check out the below comparison pics:

This will probably be moved to the Other Basketball games forum.

But I agree, during gameplay 2k looks flat, dull, lifeless.

https://youtu.be/QD6PHcCo1Is -- comment section seems largely in favor of Live, for once. (Aside from the occasional troll.)

PS - the picture slider in those links you provided are really cool

Picture wise yes, in motion I think 2k has Live beat. But those close up camera rolls after a basket and such the lighting kills 2k(on consoles)

I like how Live looks rendered compared to 2k's flat look. Maybe if 2k's players actually sweated then it wouldn't look as flat.

Live does such a better job on the arenas.

This. Ever since live 16, EA has had an advantage in terms of overall art performance... and it's only gotten better for them this year. EA's stills are amazing --- the color, the details, damn near everything about them... in motion though, 2K still has the advantage, but not as much as it did 2 years ago. The game reviews have been mostly correct in their assessment of the games: 2K reigns, but live is on the come-up, and doing so at a faster rate than expected.

In terms of player likeness, it still depends on the player which game has the better version. Live, I think, has got a better LBJ, Westbrook, Giannis, JCrossover, etc. While 2K I think has the better KD, Curry, Klay (most if not all of GSW), Kyrie, etc. With live, they win on the color, muscle definition, details department, but I actually think they have less variation amongst their player models (everybody is pretty much lean and ripped, with varying degrees of length of torso and limbs). 2K has more variety with their player models, but obviously lose where live excels... they also tend to shoot themselves on the foot, by giving unrealistic body proportions to some of the players (bigger-than-usual heads, t-rex arms, python arms, long-*** torsos), and then omitting the body edit options that served as the users' remedy to these mishaps...

Texture wise, Live is far superior, however I am not a fan of the lighting style and colorization of the overall in-game visuals. Sharp contrast and sort of a warm reddish hue overlays the game. I feel the arena lighting of 2k is much more accurate.

Unfortunately, then each game starts to move and that is where 2k shines. Which is a shame because I think Live has really great player models this year, but unfortunately the animations leave a lot to be desired. I also feel like Live models are a tad smaller than a to-scale representation of actual players. This is the reason why everyone feels that Live has superior spacing.

Also just realized in that photo, 2k has the Bucks going the wrong way in the first half. Should be attacking away from their bench in the first half, unless 2k built in logic to have it switch once every 35-40 games.

Skin tones look much better in Live. The tones on 2k are really flat and often too dark. 2k could use some of Live's muscle tone but then Live makes everyone look muscular.

I'm glad we're at a point where I'm really debating which game to buy. Last time for that was Live 10 vs 2k10. I mostly do offline so franchise is big for me. Live too major steps in the right direction this year.
Honestly, if I didn't like having the legends so much I probably would've tried Live just for something different.

I do agree that skin tones are better looking in Live but the actual players don't look nearly as good as their real-like counterpart as NBA 2K does. But, still a ton of improvement though for NBA Live.

Am I the only one who gets a minor snapshot of this thread? I only get part of the first guy's post.

(this seems somewhat irrelevant to post really since I can't see anyone else's posts, but maybe somebody can PM me)

i like how live executed the lighting for the jerseys, players skin, and arenas. oh yeah... they did a great job adding the first take scenes and the timeout/halftime break espn overlays is a nice touch. 2ks presentation isnt that shabby either without a network license. great year for b-ball gaming no matter which one you pick.
