COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus Destroyers’ defensive specialist Jerald Brown has signed a contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, team President David Paitson announced today. Brown is expected to attend Training Camp with the National Football League club when it begins on July 28.
Brown (5-11, 185, Glenville State) had a breakout season in the Arena Football League in 2006. He was named the AFL’s ADT Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Arena and Defensive Player of the Month (March) in his first full season. He finished the season ranked second in the AFL in interceptions (11), third in interception return yards (133) and fifth in passes defended (25). His interception totals also established new Destroyers franchise records.
He added 65.0 tackles (54UT-22AT) and two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned 40 yards for a touchdown. Brown also returned one interception for a touchdown, as he helped the Columbus defense rank second in the AFL, allowing an average of 44.8 points per game.
A two-time First Team all-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection at Glenville State, Brown began his AFL career in 2004 with the New York Dragons. He then played one season for the Arizona Rattlers in 2005 prior to joining the Destroyers this year. In his career, Brown has registered 88.0 tackles (75UT-26AT), 13 interceptions, 16 pass breakups and recovered four fumbles in 26 games. |
