2007 High School Football Season

Thought I'd make another thread this year. Hows your current HS or alma mater doing throughout the season.

I can't believe the players on this years team would've been between 4th and 7th when I was a senior. Crazy to think about.

Anyways, Briarcrest HS is my alma mater, and we play Carver in our first game this Friday.

Last year my former school was one game away from state for the first time in a very long time. They lost of course, thus keeping the tradition of being good, but not good enough.

My high school team is ranked 4th in illinois. We lost back to back state championships the last 2 years, and are probably worse then last year. We have the 37th best prospect in the nation at linebacker (Steve Filer-Notre Dame)

top 25 rankings from ESPN. I still think these mean very little because the teams listed rarely, if ever, play each other or other teams on the list. There isn't much basis for comparison among 20 undefeated teams. Independence #5, which is good. 109 and counting. That game in Ohio should be good.

Is independence playing anyone in the top 25 this year?

Bettendorf? That fumble in the 4th quarter must have been a bitch for you. I'm a Xavier guy

Or are you not a 4A guy?

Re: 2007 High School Football Season

My alma mater recently combined with our biggest rival to make a new school. Both schools were part of the change a few years back in Iowa to play 8 man football and are bound by a contract with the state to play 8man for 2 more years, but the worst thing is that since they now have a bigger enrollment they are not eligible for the playoffs. So essentially they are playing for nothing. I don't have much sympathy for the school since the 8 man route was a cop out for having a bad team for several years, but it does suck for the jr's and sr's that don't get to play for anything for the rest of their career.

Re: 2007 High School Football Season

My alma mater isn't very good. 3 wins is a successful season. The coaching is horrible - against 1 of our in-city rivals (appleton east, we are appleton west) when I was a senior... we ran the ball 72 times, and passed twice. My best friend would have started as varsity QB as a sophmore (he has some mad skills, to be honest) but he quit because the coach wouldn't throw. It's the same reason I didn't play through high school (WR), but I might try to pick it up again, just have to get back in shape.
