Opinion on Route Running....

Nothing really special. Me and my qb were bored and we went to this park that we usually go to and decided to own some scrubs. The fvcking grass was wet sh!t. I had to rely on 'ground pounding' so I wouldnt fall. My routes obviously suffered in the end though.

I know the competition isnt much, but what is your opinion on the route running?

You don't use your hands well enough in and out of your breaks, telegraph your routes with your upper body, don't use enough body lean on the corner and post routes and have a hitch in your start. Oh and you are way to high centered on a lot of those routes. Bad footing and you want to make good cuts, use your hands, use quick feet and drop your *** when making the sharp out, dig, or curl cuts.

Those are just to start.

Looks like you have good quick feet, and catch the ball well away from your body, but need to work on a lot of the fundamentals if you want to play at the next level. I think you've got some skills to work with.

Of course, tough to say with a home video at the park. Don't know how big you are, or how fast you are, or how well you play in pads, etc.

Thanks alot. I adjusted my route running that day because the ground was wet. The first time I ran an out and fell on my behind. The way you explained the way I should run routes is the way I used to run them but I changed my style. I figured that by running them the way I did in the vid by using stems, and headfakes it could set up DBs alot better. Which way do you think I should run them?

And what do you mean by body lean on the corner routes and a hitch in my start.

Stems and head fakes are great tools. Also on the out route stuff learn how to use a shoulder press to. Problem sometimes a stem release doesn't mesh with the rest of the play. Your headfakes are good, but you are giving them away too early allowing the DB to squat on the route. The good news is, sometimes you can use that to set up a double move. Bad news is, it can lead to a ball going to the other way on a normal route.

Like I said, I can see some things there that tell me you can play. First to things I would work on would be your take off. Get rid of the hitch you have some times, and your hands. Use them better in and out of your breaks.

I don't know how old you are or how big you are, but if I were a coach at the next level, I would think I could turn you in to a good WR.

Keep up the effort.

Re: Opinion on Route Running....

You don't explode down field on the snap. You kind of stand up then run. The receiver stance should be used just as a sprinter would do if he wasn't allowed to be in a 3 point stance. Push off and explode, because at the next level one step can mean the difference between a TD or the QB not even throwing your way.

Also, the moves you are using are too jerky and won't really cause anyone to lose track of you because you really aren't going anywhere.

I'm not saying I could cover you as I'm a washed up has been, but unless you have 4.5 speed (didn't look like it, but it is wet) you are going have to work on your technique.

Re: Opinion on Route Running....

One more thing. One some of your head fakes, you tend to get up in the air a little bit. Remember at the next level they can hit you all the way down the field until the ball is in the air. That's a good way to get knocked of your route. Dwayne Jarrett did that alot but he was 6'5 and 220 lbs.

Again, I see you've got some tools to work with, and the things I describe, I would say 98.5% of the kids I coached right out of HS also had to work on, so don't take it as I am saying you can't play or aren't any good.

Im 15, 6'2 174. Thanks alot. Im going to go back to my old method which was to drop my weight as I was about to break and as I break keep my hands moving. Oh and I changed my release each time in most of the vids. One I hopped off the line and fake outside and went inside, another I released slowly and accelerated downfield, and the other releases were normal.
How about this vid...how is the release on this one?

And whats a shoulder lean?

What a coincidence. He was the one who I modeled and changed my route running because. I try to mimick my route running similar to his but not anymore. Its going to be a hard habbit to break but i'll work on it. To help me adjust my route running, who do you think I should mimmick?
