Official AAFL Thread

Well, the season starts April 12th. Mine as well go ahead and create and official thread. The draft was on the 26th, a few days ago. I'm pretty excited about this.

Does anybody know if there are any TV contracts for this league?

Re: Official AAFL Thread

Since the draft was aired on some comcast channels maybe it'll turn up on there?

I dunno, but I do want to see some games to see the level of play.

Wow the Florida team is loaded with former Gators, looks like Shane Matthews stayed (perhaps overly) loyal to his alma mater.

Good to see Peter Warrick in the league, looking at the rosters he is probably the best collegiate player of the group (and yes I am including Eric Crouch in that statement).

well it will obviously suck compared to the nfl during the 1st season. People expect a nfl quality league to popup overnight. If this thing can keep itself on a strict track to a larger goal, then it could work given it's niche between college and the nfl.

I don't see why anyone would open a new league if they couldn't stand a few rough few seasons. The XFL could have kept going and established itself by cutting back on some of the WWF style hype/gimmicks. They were bankrolled by Vince McMahon and NBC, so they had the money. It was just a blow to their ego to see something so hyped up struggle.

Re: Official AAFL Thread

NBC pulled their funding after the abysmal ratings and I don't know that Vince McMahon could keep dumping money into the XFL with no other support.

If the AAFL is smart, they'll keep it small at first and not try to go head to head with the NFL. Looking at the rosters there is probably better name quality here than the Arena League has. A lot of those players are recognizable college players who just lacked some quality needed for the NFL or whom just got hampered by injuries. If the NFL were smart they'd try to embrace this league as an unofficial minor league now that they abandoned the NFL Europa.

The local flavor of the teams will but butts in the seats upfront. Overall if this league is run properly I think it could be a nice alternative.

they better sell out all their games then

they are paying them too much for minor league football

and their ticket prices are outrageous for minor league football
