Arena Football/UFL Rights?

Does anyone know when EA's contract with the AFL runs out? I wouldn't be surprised to see them not extend the contract and seek another publisher as EA doesn't appear to be giving it not much attention. Perhaps the AFL could sign with 2K and it could give them both a boost. Or maybe 2K could make a game for the new UFL. If 2K put a lot of work into an AFL game, it could be a million times better than the EA version, and I'm much more of a Madden person as opposed to 2K. EA clearly just wanted to take away all options for the competition. Could any of this happen?

Sorry, not really an answer to your questions, but I wonder how financially doable setting up a league just so EA or someone would purchase the video game rights is?

Could Vince McMahon sell the XFL rights away to 2K for a dollar or something?

I know I would if I was McMahon.

EA did not renew the rights to the AFL license, so anyone can contact the AFL and try their hand at developing a game.

Source.

I think the rights to the debunked XFL are more valuable at this stage.

Last time I checked, the AFL was shut down due to it's inability to maintain a profitable business model.

They're supposed to try again in 2010... good luck with that.
