Is that fair to those kids?

If those kids are really THAT good to be 9-0 through regular season and be NATIONALLY ranked it shouldn't matter WHO they play.

In addition, have you seen some of their regular season schedules? Both Warren Central and Carmel, mentioned in this article, have two Terre Haute teams on their schedule, one of which Terre Haute South is a disaster (2-8).

Here's a great website to check out all the Indiana football schedules, etc.

You're honestly defending a completely random playoff system? Why have a regular season?

Yes I am, it's only HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. The premise should be simple - beat who you face and you can win the title. These kids are students first, athletes second. Although in Texas, apparently it's the other way around.

It also forces good teams to always play their best. You really want some kids on a team with a bad record to always know they have no shot?

Re: Indiana HS footall playoff system

The only change Indiana needs to make to the football system is adding a 6th class. There is too much of a size disparity in regards to school enrollment in the 5a class. The largest 4a school has 1519 and smallest 4a school has a enrollment of 900. 3a largest is 883 and smallest is 590. 2a largest is 588 and smallest is 426. 1a is 425 and smallest is 109.

Now, in 5a the largest school is Ben Davis with an enrollment of 4500 students. The smallest 5a school has an enrollment of 1551 students, almost a 3000 student difference in enrollment from the largest 5a school to the smallest. The current 4 biggest 5a schools are Warren Central, Ben Davis, Carmel, and Penn and they have dominated 5a for the 25 years 5a has been a class with those 4 schools winning 20 of the 25 5a state football titles. They need to split the 5a class in half to let the smaller schools in the bottom half of the class a better chance to compete.

Now, even if you split the class in half the teams at the cut off line will still be around 2000 students less than the biggest 6a school but, it will give the school with enrollments of less than 2000 students a chance to win a state title. Of the 33 current schools with a enrollment under 2000 students, only one school with an enrollment of under 2000 students has won a state title in the last 15 years and that was a Rex Grossman lead Bloomington South team.

That's not that bad. Texas only has 5 classes and our 3A ranges from like 400-980. 4A 980-1900ish
