Back in the original Xbox days and before , Madden was always my last choice of football games. I loved NFL 2k of course, and I also preferred NFL Fever over Madden. I still have all 3 NFL Fever games. I also liked NFL Quarterback Club, Joe Montana Football, NFL Gameday all more then Madden. I didn't start really playing Madden until 2006 when it became the only game in town.
I played every footballl game that came out that year. Madden was always the last one I picked up and played. I really didnt get into Gameday as much but i would sure jump on all those games now. Having no options is horrible so I paly all the older games. right now I am doing the rosters for Nfl fever 2004 and playing Madden 04. I enjoy both of these right now. The lead and read feature is one of the best features in a footblaa game and it give you total control of the Qb and what truly happens on your team.
My friend and I really enjoyed playing NFL Fever 2003. Then when 2004 came out, he didn't like it so we went to Madden. I liked playing 2K5 single player.
There were a few things to like about NFL Fever back in the day, at least compared to Madden.
For one, guys who go on injured reserve don't continue to eat up a valuable roster spot.
In fact, I recall you could have over 55 active players on the Fever rosters in Dynasty. As long as you could afford to sign them, you could add them without going over a limit.
Realistic?
No, but neither is the idea of having 4-5 guys on your IR in a Madden game from that time period and not even being able to replace them with free agents because they still counted on your roster. Nor could you release those players.
Fever 2004 also had that feature which showed your team's coach suggesting an offensive or defensive formation before you selected each play.
What I liked most about NFL Fever was the Read and Lead system (man, I wish I could play that game again with the knowledge that I have now that I didn't have then), the way the uniforms got dirty, and the towels on the players waist.
According to my old marketing professor, satisfaction is when product performance meets or exceeds consumer expectation.
Fever was just straight up FUN. I remember discovering that while tip toeing the sideline, you could use the right stick to kind of tip toe yourself back into play. Man oh man, where have all "the little things" gone?
back in the original XBOX days was there anyone who preferred NFL Fever to Madden???
were there any features in NFL Fever that should be in Madden???
Madden needs to incorporate something like this because the passing game needs alot of work. i was really liking the demo but the more i play it the more i see it really needs to be reworked. The passing game is awful sometime. Its truely is sad that it's been 6+ years and madden is still behind.. wow.
That was my play time on the Xbox. The thing that kept me coming back to Fever was all the stats you could break and how they showed a stat banner during the game when you broke the record. I used to save the replays of every record I beat. Game wasn't all that realistic, but it was fun as hell.
I never played NFL Fever. I did have an original Xbox for very long before I got an Xbox 360, so there were very few original Xbox games I played. But I loved the NFL Gameday series on PS1/2.
I have a question for the group here. If NFL Fever 2004 etc had updated rosters would you still enjoy playing the game or would you always prefer the newer football game out at the time?
