College Football Coach 2017 for Android

After working on several roster projects here on OS, I've decided to take a break from them over the past couple weeks and work on expanding some source code a developer posted on GitHub for a game called Football Coach on Android. The game is basically a college football game GM-style text sim. I've done some significant updates to existing (free) game and have been putting out beta files to play around with on my GitHub.

There's also an iOS version that another developer has been working on over the past year or so as well, as well as a NFL and College Hoops version.

If you're interested in the developments, you can check out the reddit page

If anyone is interested in this game, the Android fork I've been working on is getting some new updates this month and has significantly improved and enhanced since when I first made this post.

In addition, an iOS version has seen a major upgrade recently as well.

After 6 months of development, I am finally going to release a stable version of College Football Coach: Career Edition. This has been a fun project that to learn Java & Android programming and to expand upon an already time-waster game, Football Coach by Achi Jones (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...?id=Coach+Apps).

I've luckily had a great resource of testers for this app via Reddit and my friends/family. It's gone through a lot of make overs and feature changes. I'm pretty happy with where it's at now. There is also an iOS fork of the original game in development by Aksay Easwaran (https://github.com/akeaswaran) that has some of this versions new elements in it, and is on the App Store.

Anyway, here's high level list of the hundreds and thousands of new code I put into this project.

Thanks. I'm prepping a new update with the new college rule changes and some Mock Draft improvements and some other random cleanup fixes

Just wanted to throw out that on Android this game is being updated heavily. It has a lot more depth, you can get fired or take a better position, players get suspended, the prestige mechanic was overhauled, TEs and a second safety were added, defensive stats, special team stats. It's a great game. Under College Football Coach: Career Edition on the Play Store

Thanks everyone. The updates have stopped for a while as I work on other hobbies and such. With CFB season upon us again, I may feel motivated to start working on this game some more. There have been a lot of requests for the following:

-mid season saves (starting to figure out this)
-enhanced recruiting (many thoughts on paper, nothing in code yet)
-Pro NFL version (lots of things have crossed my mind)
-Play by Play Calling (another user started coding this, may merge the code in if it's ready)

Also started working on improving an in-game editor, redshirting features, and other things

Can someone explain recruiting to me? If I recruit someone I get them? Also I can never get towards top of recruiting rankings even with Bama. Is it more recruits or better recruits?

And can I redshirt players on roster ?

Yea the game is designed to basically... give you a list of people who are interested already. Then you are given a budget to use to convince them (they will automatically sign if you choose them). Higher rated players will require more recruiting budget.

The recruiting rankings is based on perceived rating (1-5) x number of players in that rating category x number of players recruited. (or something like that I forget) -- I used a calculation that one of the major recruiting sites uses.

It is usually better to recruit to your needs and make sure you fill out your roster with players, even lower quality ones. They will almost always be better than having to get walk-ons. Rankings matter but you dont want to be in a situation where you have to start walkons at many positions down the road.

The star ratings dont fully factor in potential either, so there may be hidden gems that are lower rated but may rise in rating over 4 years *unless you enabled the option to show potential*

The only thing I'd point out is that the Read Option offensive system isn't viable.

The TD to Interception ratio is too high for such a system.

Probably the best use would be to categorize it as Triple Option instead of read option, then have the Read Option-Pass be described as Spread and Spread described as Air Raid.

                            Min,

I have been playing this game for a while and I really enjoy it.

How hard would it be to make a high school version of this game where you dont recruit players, but are just given a certain amount of players each season with pretty much randomized stats and its up to you to put them at positions that would benefit the team the most.

I have always wanted a HS football game, this seems like it lends itself well to it.

                            Thanks!

Removing the recruiting function and replacing it with how could recruits... Wouldn't be too difficult.

Would prob want to make a playoff system for it though.

Though... Some HSs recruit.... Sigh. One of our local HS was caught doing that recently with some big time recruits. Bellevue HS
