Are NHL 2K Patches Still Active

A bit of an odd question...

I just bought NHL 2K7, and awaiting 2K8, both on PS3 and wanted to know if anyone might know if the patches are still active?

I've gone back and tried playing some of the older EA games (NHL, Madden, NCAA) and found that their patches were no-longer available; a sham given just how broken those games were out of the box (that's not a SIM nutters critique either, those games were busted and froze constantly).

I'm looking forward to some retro gaming with my little guy!

Also, if they aren't active, is there any way of getting either saved games, or something like that, which might already have them installed? This goes for any of the previous games mentioned.
