Funkycorm Presents: The Funky Era of Wrestling, Redemption

Welcome to my WWE Universe. This is being dubbed the Funky Era of Wrestling.

My wrestling video game and watching history:

In terms of WWE games, I have a scattered history with them. My first was No Mercy on the N64 which I am sure a lot of people’s first one was. My sister and I would play it all the time. I next then played a Raw vs. Smackdown game on the PS2 around 2005 or so. After that, my next experience with WWE games came with 2k19 which I played for a while. I bought 2k22 for the PS5 a bit ago when it was on sale along with all of the character unlocks.

In terms of watching WWE, I watched it on a regular basis between around 1999 and 2006. This was my favorite era of wrestling and the one I watched the most of.

What the above means for my universe, is that I am not highly informed on the new WWE, it’s wrestlers, and recent WWE events. But this is a good thing. I can create my own WWE universe to make it my own without preconceived notions of what should happen. This also means that I don’t have a lot of knowledge about what has happened over the last 5-10 years.

With that out of the way, let’s get to the settings.

Settings:

Game: WWE 2k22
System: PS5
Difficulty: Normal to start. We will see how it goes.
Who to play decisions: In a normal one on one match or tag team match, I will do a coin flip to see who I play, in a match that has more than 2 individual wrestlers or 2 teams, a random number generator will be used to decide the team I play.
Rosters: I will be using the 2k22 rosters to start. I will be making some created wrestlers along the way, and potentially some user created wrestlers. All credit for those goes to the original creators. Any created wrestlers I use that I did not create, I am changing the name of along with a few other things to fit into my universe but as I said, credit goes to the creators.
Sliders/balancing: I am leaving these all at default to start. I may adjust as needed but I haven’t really assessed what all I can or cannot change.

With some basics out of the way, let’s get to the plan next.

Re: Funkycorm Presents: The Funky Era of Wrestling, Redemption

The plan

So, I attempted this back in 2020 but it didn't take off for a few reasons. One was that was the time when my gaming patterns started to change. Another, and the main reason, was that I simply bit off more than I could chew. I was going to run the 4 shows plus add 2 of my own for 6 shows a week. This was a bit too ambitious of me and it made progress slow. Because progress was slow, I couldn't deliver what I wanted. I was also trying to come up with convoluted reasons why I was randomly running WWE and it hampered everything.

So, the plan this time is different. I will be taking over the WWE but we are not going to worry about the why it happened or anything. It's simply now that I am in charge.

Instead of doing the 6 shows I intended to do in 2k19 and quickly not liking the lack of progression, I will be cutting back to 3 shows. I feel having only 3 shows will improve story progression. Those will be RAW, SmackDown, and a women's show. I will highlight what will happen to the NXT show. I will also have one GM for each of these shows, that will be announced later.

The women’s show will be called Women’s Wednesday and feature a new arena I created. The women wrestlers from RAW and SmackDown will all move to this show. There will be 3 championships, which I will highlight in the championship section below. Women’s Wednesday will be a 6-match show to start.

NXT will be dissolved. The female wrestlers will all move to Women’s Wednesday while the male wrestlers will move to RAW and SmackDown to even the rosters out. More have ended up on SmackDown to balance everything out.

As far as match results, I am going to do a simple spoiler for each match. There will be some story lines added throughout the shows, but it will not be highly detailed. This may change as this gets off the ground and I see where it takes me.

I have a long list of story ideas that I have created for this so therefore I will not be using the rival system in the game. I may make some of them rivals for the cut scenes, but it won’t be the focus here. Back in 2020 when I tried this, I was also trying to find meaning in every match and create a story for each and every match. This time I am embracing that sometimes matches are just that. Matches. This has paradoxically opened up my story telling. I just needed to realize that there doesn’t need to be an explanation for each match or for each wrestler’s actions.

Remember, a suspension of disbelief must be had in this dynasty.

Rosters

Current as of May, Year 1, Week 1

If I use any, the created superstars I use that others have made are credited to the original creators.
I will also be adding a few of my own created wrestlers to the mix at some point. I won’t from the get go, but introduce them as storylines dictate.

Note: I have removed some of the wrestlers I know that are not currently in WWE. I do not want complete accuracy but I did remove some. In the end though, I am going to roll with the rosters as above for now.

Re: Funkycorm Presents: The Funky Era of Wrestling, Redemption

PPV Schedule

May: Money In The Bank (RAW, SmackDown, Women’s Wednesday)

June: Backlash (RAW, SmackDown)

July: Womenz Warz (Women’s Wednesday), Horror Show Extreme Rules (RAW, SmackDown)

August: Summerslam (RAW, SmackDown, Women’s Wednesday)

September: Clash of Champions Gold Rush (RAW, SmackDown, Women’s Wednesday)

October: Hell in a Cell (RAW, SmackDown, Women’s Wednesday)

November: Survivor Series (RAW, SmackDown, Women’s Wednesday)

December: Payback (RAW, SmackDown, Women’s Wednesday)

January: Royal Rumble (RAW, SmackDown, Women’s Wednesday)

February: Elimination Chamber (RAW, SmackDown, Women’s Wednesday)

March: None

April: Wrestlemania (RAW, SmackDown, Women’s Wednesday), will be the second Sunday in April.

I have made a few changes here. I moved Payback to December. I also have given Women's Wednesday a PPV of its own to see how it goes. If it is successful, I will be adding another one somewhere in the late fall/early winter. After Money in The Bank, most of the PPV will be moved to the last Sunday of the month.
