A Paintball BAP - Mitchel Gate

I've finally decided to make a be-a-pro, but I wanted to change it up a little so I'll be using Greg Hasting's Tournament Paintball Max'd for PS2.

Edit: This will get better as it goes on, around page 2 it starts getting real good.

    Mitchel Gate: Where Jobless Happens
I’ve been looking for a job ever since I turned 16, hoping that my new age would boost my chances because hirers tend to hire older people. Sadly, no good jobs have been on the market lately, so even with my new age I still haven't found a job.< font>
I woke up at 6:00 AM (look I’m desperate and couldn’t wait any longer) on Sunday, July 26, 2009. Running out to the driveway, I took a big spill over a suicidal squirrel and landed on the paper, even though my knee hit the concrete with a lotta contact. I stood up and grabbed the Boston Globe, my knee felt excrusiatingly bad but what's a little pain?
I started reading immediately, right in the driveway… it seemed like a reasonable place to stand and read at the moment.
    JOBS:
-- Bathroom attendant at the Red Roof Inn in Foxboro.
    - Supermarket Bagger at one of the gazillion Super Stop & Shops.
-- Paintball Team Mess is looking for a third player to round out their team and enable them to compete in tournaments with big cash rewards. Try-outs at the Fox4 Paintball facility in Upton, Mass. are on Wednesday July 29, 2009 at 10:00 AM. More information is provided on our website.< font O<>< font O<>
    ----------------------------------------------------------
I stared at the paper for awhile, taking in this big opportunity...Paintball seemed fun and it said there was big cash prizes so it was a win win. I thought it was awhile until I heard police sirens and looked up to see my parents and a police officer running towards me yelling (Dad), crying (Mom), and chowing down on a jelly doughnut (police officer Bruce).
“Son, what were you thinking? You had your parents worried sick.” asked the officer.
“First off I’m not your son,” I guess I have somewhat of an 'atitude' when people come and accuse me of stuff. “And second, I was just reading the paper in my driveway searching for jobs. So don’t get your XL panties in a bunch! Just get back in your copcar and leave me alone! GOT IT?” Ok, that was a little harsh. The police officer just nodded nervously and sprinted, as fast as his large thighs and bustling belly would let him, back to his cruiser and sped off.< font O< O<>
I was grounded for a week for giving my parents near-heart attacks and for talking back to the cop…I guess the driveway isn’t a very reasonable spot for reading. Who knew?
Anyways, after things calmed down I told my parents about the job with high expectations for their reactions. They totally let me down. They hated even the thought of it. Both of them agreed it was a very dangerous sport (pff...) and even if they let me try-out, I had never even played Paintball. I agreed that did affect my chances, but I was willing to try because I needed the cash and car. They still didn’t let me.
“Look, if you let me try-out and I don’t get the job and/or end up injured…I’ll do five new chores that you get to assign me. If I do make it, I will donate ¼ of my earnings to fund for college and 1/4 to you.” That was an offer no parent in their right mind would deny.< font O<>
I managed to type up an entry form before the time they had said if I didn’t finish it by, they wouldn’t let me try-out. The form was mandatory if I wanted to even get a shot at getting the job. The website on the extra info, rules, etc. said it would be like a Resume and would help players' chances a little by how much experience they had and how well it was written. I have to say mine was pretty thought through...(it'll come later)
I then went online to look at what the junk Paintball was. I didn’t know really anything about it, besides that I had to shoot other players to get them out and if I got hit, I was out… finally I stopped to check my clock: 11:53 PM.< font>
    < font>
    Gotta go,< font>

Re: A Paintball BAP - Mitchel Gate

My Resume - didn't really know what to put in it , so I just put in random stuff.

        Name: Mitchel Gate
        Date of birth: 10/21/1992
        Age: 16
        Height: 5’11”
        Weight: 175 lbs.
        Past Job Experience: None
        Grade Average: B-
Skills: Archery, Hide & Go Seek, Track & Field
Reason for wanting job: My mom wants me out of the house doing something productive, my dad doesn’t like paying for all my teenage needs and junk, and I need money for all my teenage needs and junk, and a car. So, I searched for a job and found this one. It looked exciting, so I said why not and here I am now typing this.
Why I think I’m suitable for job: If you look at my skills, you might think I’m kooky putting on Hide & Go Seek, but I did some research on how to play paintball and what the fields look like. There are various bunkers and with my skills in Hide & Go Seek, I’ll be great at hiding from paintballs.
If I do say so myself, I am a great archer – Archery takes a lot of accuracy and focus, and in Paintball I can use that to eliminate my opponents.
In Track & Field I do hurdles, so I have pretty good speed and great jumping. This will allow me to move around the field with ease, and I will be able to jump over low bunkers to get to better spots.
The biggest reason that I’m suitable for this job, though, is the fact that I have something to fight for: money. Money that will help me in the long run and the short run…I need a car, this job will help.
        -----------------------------
I think it's brilliant with the hide & go seek FTW!

              Tryout Day

9:54, the Gate's vomit green minivan pulls up to the paintball facility in Upton. The line is already a massive snake, bending around trees and cars right into the middle of the street. "Great..." I mumble as I take my spot in line.
Suddenly I hear a loud and obnoxious dinging noise going off... "WHAT IS YOUR NAME SON?!" screeches some random guy with several shaving cuts splattered around his face.
"First off I'm not your son," my classic line, "and my name's Mitchel, Mitchel Gate. Why are you yelling in my face and asking questions?"
"Because you are the 200th try-out..um...try-outerer...er. Anywho, you get to cut all 199 people anxiously waiting and go first! CONGRATS!!"SWEET!! He escorted me to the front where I passed in my sign-up form and then followed a guy that looked like he was at least 300 pounds and like 7 feet. In other words, he was scary and oddly staring down...down...down at me. "Don't eat me!"
"Look, kid. I don't have time for cry babies, so suck it up or your out!" he barked.
I nodded and with all my strength forced myself not to turn around and walk away. He led me into a course, which I was guessing was a paintball field. Bunkers, were all spread out and on the ground was the gun I would be using. "You won't need any other equipment in this course. This is just to test some of your skills and to teach you some new stuff that might help IF you get picked, which I highly doubt...no offense.
He picked up a bullhorn and started barking into it which made me even more scared, "First off, pick up the gun and move towards the target...now stop! Fire!" I pulled the trigger and a ball of paint rocketed out, nailing the guy on the picture square in the head.
"GOOD WORK ROOKIE! Now, sprint over to the bunker..."

After a long try-out session, he told me I could go but first congratulated me on performing so well. I walked back to my parents with a smile on my face. "How'd you do, son?" asked my dad and I was actually his son.
"Pretty good! The guy said I did good so I guess I did good."

I can't wait until Friday when they call the winner...and the losers.

              Wish me luck,
              Mitchel, Mitchel Gate

                -2 days later

Friday the Day of All Days: Winner or Loser?

After a long day of biting my nails and praying as I waited by the phone for the ‘call’, it rang - 5 on the dot. My dad had just put down the spaghetti we were eating for dinner and I had finally agreed to leave the phone to eat. That meant I wasn't ready for when it rang, so Mom bounced out of her chair first and snatched it just before my shaky, sweaty hand did.
“Hello? This is his mother speaking, may I ask who's calling…Yes, here he is.” She handed me the phone.
“Its Mitchel…yeah, the big scary guy...wait, so you’re him and the coach? Not just some big guy they hired to scare us before the try-out…Oh, so you mean there's now actually three open spots…the two original guys quit because they didn’t want some rookie on their team…well that stinks but I guess it's better for me...so did I get picked...I was the third one chosen?! I GOT THE SPOT!!? I’M ON THE TEAM???” I dropped the phone and started running around the house, hopping, and letting out girly screams of joy all at the same time ! I was gonna be playing Paintball for Team Mess, and would be earning money for my car!!

I can't wait to meet my teammates!!!

                Gotta go celebrate,
                Mitchel, Mitchel Gate

Peter Carey: #26, Forward, 17 years old, 5’10”, 177 pounds, Right-handed – Peter was born on September 18, 1991 and grew up in Tampa, FL. He has a lot of talent and potential and his future looks bright. His specialty is sniping targets, which is ironic because he is a sniper in hockey. He is also very quick on his feet and is great at dodging. Was the first overall selection at try-outs (would’ve been only winner if Team Mess’ original two players hadn’t quit)

Matt Parks: #24, Defense, 18 years old, 6’4”, 230 pounds, Right-handed – Matt’s birthday is February 18, 1991 and his hometown is Santa Ana CA. He, like Peter, seems to have a bright future, but first must control his temper and physical play. Paintball really isn’t a good sport for checking, which is one of his favorite things to do…we’ll have to wait and see on how that affects his play. Was second overall pick at try-outs, and was lucky enough to make the team because the two original Mess members quit.

His skills are speed, accuracy, and staying in cover. He rarely gets tired and always perserveres after losses, mostly because he needs this job to get money for a car. Badlands Open - Our First Tournament

"Haden Franke runs across the length of the field, taking out Peter Carey and Mitchel Gate in the same stride! He is amazing, the best the sport has ever seen! Matt Parks is the only one left as he rapidly fires paintball after paintball...Haden Franke takes cover and gets into a crouch. He points his gun and fires off three in a row, heading for Matt Park and Matt is making a move to try and dodge in...SPLAT!!! His visor is covered in orange paint as Haden and his teammates jump up and celebrate. That's it for the first round of the Badlands Open! The rookies, Team Mess, couldn't get one elimination!!" "Hey Mitchel! You guys stink worse than Jason Skyland on Burrito night..."
                            BRIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGG!!!
My head shoots of my pillow at blazing speed. I'm dripping with sweat, but relieved - it was just a dream. I look at my alarm clock: 8:00 AM. Tournament is at 12:00.

                            - 4 hours later

Peter, Matt, and I, the rookie squad, walk into the players' area near the field. The eight other teams are already there, staring evily back at us. "Hey, see that guy over there? That's Phil Gomez. He used to be on our team but he quit cause of us. Nor Cal picked him up." informed Peter.
"Yeah, and the other guy isn't even playing anymore." said Matt. That's when I noticed the guy from my dream: Haden Franke. I was about to go over and talk to him, but Coach grabbed me and pulled me into a huddle.
"Ok guys, I bet you're all nervous. Don't be. Just go out there and play what you were picked for: Paintball. Have fun, but keep your awareness up. I don't want you bunching up because one enemy guy can run in and shoot you all at once. Try to always have one guy on the left - center - and right...got it?" We nodded. "K, go get 'em. You're first up and the crowd wants to see ya rookies win. DO IT!!!" I gulped at that as I followed Matt and Peter to the field.

Preliminaries: Best 3 out of 5
Mess vs. St. Pauli Reckless (Team Captain - Haden Franke)
Round 1: Peter made a somewhat smart, somewhat crazy move to start off the round when he charged up the middle. He managed to get one guy, but Haden Franke painted Peter's stomach and he was out. Matt splattered another guy, leaving only Haden. Sadly, Haden sneaked up behind my bunker and shot down at me. That left Matt and him in a shootout until finally Haden proved to much and nailed Matt in the arm. (0-1)
Round 2: Peter took out two, including Haden (revenge is sweet!) Then me, Mitchel Gate, fired a long shot at a guy in the back left and got him for the first elimination of my life!! (1-1)
Round 3: As Peter ran up to his forward posistion, Haden took him out. I played hero and took out Haden just for Peter! Matt took care of another, leaving the same back left guy. It was like a flashback to the last round when I got him again. (2-1!!)
Round 4: Haden and some other dude no one likes got Peter and I easily, leaving poor Matt 3v1. Matt somehow got two of them to get to another shootout against Haden...again it was his downfall. (2-2)
Round 5 (final round): The whole match I couldn't see what was going on because I was too busy crawling up the side. Then, as I reached the top left, that guy was there and I don't think he noticed me. I unleashed a wave of paint on him and that's when Matt and Peter tackled me!! WE HAD WON OUR FIRST MATCH!!!
Personal Stats: 4 Eliminations, 2 outs.
                            Peter: 4 eliminations, 3 outs
                            Matt: 5 eliminations, 2 outs

Semi Finals: Best 3 out of 5
Mess vs. Nor Cal (Team Captain: Phil Gomez)
Round 1: Peter got our team rockin with 2 eliminations early and easily. I didn't keep the good times rollin, though, because Phil Gomez pulled a Haden Franke from my dream and ran the length of the field - splattering little me. Matt and Peter teamed up to avenge me with Matt eventually getting the "kill" on Phil. (1-0)
Round 2: I worked my up the right wing, taking out two stragglers. Peter did the dirty work on Gomez. (2-0)
Round 3: We got the shut-out as I got 2 and Peter got 1 again. As we walked off the field celebrating our second win, Phil came over, "You rookies got lucky, next time you're dead." Matt showed him the exit by literally picking him up and throwing him out.
Personal Stats: 4 Eliminations, 1 out
                            Peter: 4 eliminations, 0 outs
                            Matt: 1 elimination, 0 outs

"Guys, we got a shot at winning this thing!" I said as we sat down and drank our gatorades.
"Don't get cocky. I've actually seen the Boston Paintball Factory play. They are good!! They'll snipe you, trick you, sneak up on you -" Matt was saying until Peter interupped.
"Chill man. I think we have a shot too. Everyone has a shot. We've got a 50% shot now ...1/2 a chance at $300, plus 600 bucks extra. That would be sweeeeet!! I could get season tickets to see my Bolts play!!"

Finals: Best 3 out of 5
Mess vs. Boston Paintball Factory (Players: Jason Skyland, Scott Quickel, 'C' Nick Ritt)
Round 1: "You're winning streak stops here." said Nick Ritt to me as I was entering the field. My reply: "You guys stink as bad as Jason Skyland on burrito night." (Thank you Haden Franke dream!) Skyland was a piece of cake to eliminate as I easy breezy shot him while running up the left side. Peter got Ritt, and as I made the turn into the center, I spotted Quickel. Next thing he knew the ref was calling him out. (1-0)
Round 2: Ritt made a nice run to take out Peter & I. Quickel got Park square in the visor and poor Matt ran tripped over a low bunker (or snake in Paintball lingo ) (1-1)
Round 3: Again we were beaten 3-0. (2-1)
Round 4: Right when the ref's whistle blew I started shooting randomly and some how hit Jason Skyland. Then Peter got the 2 remaining enemy paintballers.
Round 5: (This decides the winner of $300) Peter got nailed by Quickel early. Luckily, Matt was able to take out Ritt and Skyland but was eliminated by Quickel. This was the most nerve-wracking part of the tournament for me so far. Scott Quickel vs. Mitchel Gate 1on1. It decided the winner. Too bad I didn't know where he was...so you guessed it: I was shot. We lost. Matt, the 6'4" 230 pound hockey defenseman, cried. Peter said the loss was his fault...I agreed
Personal Stats: 3 eliminations, 3 outs
                            Peter: 3 eliminations, 3 outs
                            Matt: 2 eliminations, 3 outs

1st Place: Boston Paintball Factory - 100 leaderboard points, $300 each
                            2nd Place: Mess - 75 leaderboard points, $200 each
3rd Place: Nor Cal - 50 leaderboard points, $100 each

My parents were really proud of me, but I wasn't really in the mood to talk. We were so close to the gold...and...I got hit by a ball of paint. Ah well, we've got another tournament next week.

Coach was so proud of us that he gave us $550!! $550 + $200 = $750!! I went out to some Paintball store and bought a new marker (gun) - the Tippmann Model 98 for $190.Tippmann Model 98(2).jpg
Which leaves me with $560/4 = $140 to my college fund (the deal) leaving me with - $420. $410 will be going to a jar in my room labeled: "CAR MONEY" - leaving me with $10

                            $10, sweeeeeeeeet!
