We finally got to her apartment and managed to tear ourselves away from each other long enough to go up the stairs and for her to unlock the door. In between kisses, she managed to give me a tour of her place.
“Couch. Kitchen. Closet.”
“Nice. Where's the bedroom?”
“This way.”
Never letting go of each other we stumbled into her bedroom and laid down on the bed. I looked at her again just to be sure this wasn't a dream. When she brought my mouth back to hers, I knew that it wasn't. We began removing clothing and that's when the phone rang.
“Is that yours or mine?”
“It doesn't matter. Just ignore it,” I said as the phone stopped ringing.
“See? They'll leave a message.”
It began to ring again. This time she stopped me.
“It could be important.” I rolled over in disgust cursing whoever was on the other end of that phone. She looked at the caller ID and then looked at me.
“It's Erwin.”
You have got to be ****ing kidding me, I thought to myself. This guy has rotten timing.
“Hey, baby,” she said.
Baby? I was about to baby in a few minutes if he hadn't called.
“Really? That's great. I can't wait to see you.”
I had completely sat up by this point.
What did she mean by she can't wait to see him? We're clearly in the middle of something.
“Okay. I'll see you then.” She hung up the phone and turned back to me.
“You have to go.”
“What? Why? Is he on his way here?”
“No, but you have to go.”
“Kris, you can't be serious,” I said as she started picking up her clothes and tossing mine to me.
“Very serious. Do you realize what almost just happened?”
“What do you mean almost? This moment does not have to be stolen from us. This is what we both want.”
“What I want is for you to leave,” she said as she walked out of the room.
“You can let yourself out.”
“Kristin, wait.”
She slammed the door to the bathroom and locked it behind her. I stood on the other side with my shirt and shoes in my hand. I couldn't believe the night was ending like this. I went into the living room to get dressed and to call a cab since I let the driver go for the night. I hadn't planned on heading back to McKinley Park until it was time to go to the gym. I decided to wait outside in the hallway until my cab arrived.
“Kris, I'm leaving,” I yelled down the hall toward the bathroom before stepping out into the hallway to wait. She didn't even answer.

When I got back my condo, I put on some sweats and headed downstairs to the workout facility. I had to work off some of this frustration. I threw some weights on the bar and laid down on the bench. I had to get my mind off of Kristin. I had to get my mind off of tonight. I needed to get back to the reason why I was in Chicago. I had a fight in two weeks and I needed to get ready. My dad was going to be in town in a few days and I needed to have my head clear if I was going to deal with him.
