With a full strength roster for the first time in 2 games, Celta had the chance to show the fans, 200 of them now, how they could really play.

In the first half, Celta got out to a blazing start, well at least Michu did, because in the 11th minute, Gaitan sent a cross over the box that was too high for everybody but Abalo was there to send it back in with a header towards Michu who got it and scored his 1st goal of his career! After the restart, Cordoba threw everyone forward but Fernandes got an interception and sent it forward to Michu who easily ran past the defenders and chipped the keeper who was at the edge of the box. In 12 minutes Celta had a comfortable lead over Cordoba. After working the ball around, Cordoba managed to sneak Asen behind the defense and he scores on a header. Mayorquin would respond after a Joselu pass out of the box 14 minutes with a low screamer from 30 yards out for his 5th of the season.

In the second half, Joselu didn't want to be outdone by the Hondurian, as he would get his 5th goal as well after getting a clearance by the new Vila on the team, Amieva Vila, who Adelardo Rodriguez had sent to Vigo just days before. Nothing else would happen until the beginning of extra time when a hard slide tackle by Botelho had him sent off with a red card. Cordoba would be unable to score on the free kick, leaving the score at 4-1 Celta.

Game 8 at Real Betis

Forgot to record starting lineup, sorry.

[i]In what could be the biggest game of the year, #2 Celta traveled to #1 Real Betis in a battle to see who were the better team, and Betis wanted to get off to an early start. Padova weaved through the Celta defense to score an easy one right past Falcon. Only several minutes later would star Betis striker Sergio Garcia score on a free kick awarded at the edge of the penalty box. Celta spent all of the first half on her butt trying to forge together enough momentum to get an attack in but ended up only shooting once.

The second half was a back and forth struggle by both teams, the only highlight being a 90th minute rebound by Vila, who had come on for Villa, for his first goal of his career. Betis were just too much for the young team as they remained in 1st place while Celta dropped back to 4th.

Final score is Real Betis 2, Celta 1

It has taken 9 games but finally a lineup had been formed that had players in there prime locations. It is unfortunate it he though that it game a game too late in order to take on the #1 team but there was always the 2nd round which would be in Vigo. There were still concerns about stamina with the team but that should be dealt with over time.

Getting into the box was a problem for both teams as they each combined for 4 shots the entire half and none were on target. The best chance was a free kick that barely hit the crossbar for Celta.

The second half was different as Celta went on an all out offensive that led to 5 attempts that were just not enough to score. In the 80th minute however Celta got a corner after another save by Casilla. Abalo sent it towards the far post where Botelho is there to head it in and break the tie in the 80th minute! Celta instantly went into turtle mode. Cadiz got a chance when Tristan got the ball in the box and almost scored on a sideways first-touch kick but it went wide right. After 3 minutes of extra time the ref blew his whistle, ending the game in another win for Celta.

"Wooooowwwww." his voice trailed off as he turned around slowly. 20,000 people had bought tickets to see the team play. "Why are all of these people here today?"

"To see us play?", "Free beer?" "De citas en línea?", just to name a few of the ideas that the team were throwing around as they lined up on the field.

"Your the head honcho?" came a voice from behind. He was about 6'3, 200 pounds. He had a brown Afro and wore old basketball shorts from the 80's. "I'm Jackie Moon, head of the fan club."

"We have a fan club?", he said under his breath. "Hey aren't you Will Ferrell?"

"No, but I have a secret weapon that will help you win!" the man said as he pulled out makeup.

"Yeahhh, no, leave, like now." They had a game to play and a guy was trying to make the team look pretty!

(I thought it was kind of funny, I need to lay off the sugar I think )


Hercules dominated the first half, having 3 great chances to take the lead but twice the ball hit the crossbar and once it went wide. Their defense kept Joselu marked and it was impossible to try and work the ball around the high pressure. Celta did get a free kick but missed their opportunity when it hit the wall.

The second half had similar results. Hercules found it easy to get the ball up to the box but just couldn't get a leg or head on the ball to score. Celta did get several more opportunities but ended up doing more damage to themselves as they left the back line far up trying to support the offense. The game ended without a score and thankfully without makeup.
