Crystal Palace came out and stunned the Stoke City crowd scoring 3 goals in the first half and eventually took a 4-0 lead. Stoke City then woke up and dominated play, almost coming back to tie the game. Stoke scored 2 goals in the last 5 minutes and was a shot off the post away from stealing a point. "The last 30 minutes or so was a wake up call. We have to defend better if we're to accomplish our goals this season. Stoke really took it to us for the latter part of the game. If this game was one minute longer we probably would have seen a draw," said Johnathan Parr following the game.

Crystal Palace's Ludovic scored a goal in his first match with the team. He was purchased from CD Feirense for £4,400,000.

Crystal Palace took revenge on West Ham United for their loss in the second round of last season's League Cup (now the Capital One Cup) with a 2-0 victory. Crystal Palace was knocked back to Earth by the defending Premier League Champions. Crystal Palace never had a real chance and Chelsea attacked at will. Marcado gave up an own goal in the 51st minute that sent Crystal Palace reeling. Chelsea scored a goal, but left at least 3 out there following the own goal. Crystal Palace can't let this affect their confidence going forward.

Crystal Palace held control of most of the match, but a mistake by the defense let Doyle get behind and score the first goal of the match 1-0. Murray was able to get the tying goal in the 88th to get the point for the Eagles.

Wigan gets their first point on the table with a home draw against Crystal Palace. Ludovic opened the game with a screaming low cross that bounced off of Adrian Lopez' head and into the goal for the opening score. Wigan came right back with a goal of their own in the 8th minute. Zaha broke his wrist in the 64th minute when he was tackled in the box. The Palace felt this should have resulted in a PK.
Whelan headed home the tying goal in the 76th minute on a fluke play where a shot was deflected, but went directly to an uncovered Whelan.
