Diawara Out Following Serious Injury During Training

CB Souleymane Diawara lost For 3 months

Marseille- Not very deep to begin with, Didier Deschamps' Marseille squad's title hopes suffered were given a serious jolt on Friday when star CB Souleymane Diawara had to be carted off the training ground following a serious leg injury. Later in the day the club announced that the 32 year old Senegalese would be out until after the new year due to a torn quadriceps muscle.

Recap- Hoping to get back on track against the visitors from Brittany, Olympique Marseille instead were stunned, falling to Stade Brestois by 2-0. Outshot by 19(8) to 3(2), Brest's lone two shots on goal both found the back of the net while Marseille were time and again thwarted by a tremendous performance from keeper Steeve Elana, causing OM Manager to remark: "It just wasn't our day. I thought we played well, the effort was there, the attempts were there and the defense was there but somehow we lost.....that's football."

Recap- Andre Ayew's goal just sixteen minutes in set the tone for what would be one of Marseille's most complete matches of the season, as they demolished visiting Ajaccio by the score of 4-0. With the win OM now move to within five points of first place Lyon whom they face next in a round of 16 Coupe De La Ligue match.

Recap- Given a tough draw in their Coupe De La Ligue round of 16 matchup, Marseille got just what they needed when Brazilian striker Brandao took advantage of a rain induced defensive turnover to give Marseille an early 1-0 lead over home favorites Lyon.
Luck continued to go OM's way as the match continued, with no less than three Lyon shots hitting the woodwork and bouncing away, denying them a chance to equalize before the half expired. Early in the second half it was Marseille who had the better of it, and you began to get the sense that this was going to be their day, but Lyon would have none of it, finally tying the match at the 72' minute mark before shockingly going ahead to stay when 23 year old Maxime Gonalons tapped in a tremendous cross from Michel Bastos with just a few minutes remaining, and just like that it was over. Following the match Marseille Manager Didier Deschamps admitted that his club tired late and that adding depth would be priority #1 come January.
