Match Day #24
5 February 2012
Anfield

Liverpool 3-0 Tottenham Hotspur

Scoring Summary
Steven Gerrard(LFC) 34'
Steven Gerrard(LFC) 45'p
Jordan Henderson(LFC) 64'

Recap- In a showdown with Spurs at Anfield in which the winner would find themselves in 4th place and the loser in 6th, Tottenham found themselves caught in a boiling cauldren of Red, and never had a chance as they fell to Liverpool 3-0. Two first half goals by Steven Gerrard all but sealed the deal for the Reds, but it was Jordan Henderson's goal with just under a half hour remaining that started the party, with Reds fans celebrating wildly as their lads wound down the remaining time with stifling defense combined with smart possession based football. All in all one of the finest performances by Brendan Rodgers' club this season. With Spurs behind them, Liverpool must now quickly regroup for a huge visit to Old Trafford to face hated rivals Manchester United.... 1st place Manchester United who sit just 8 points clear of the Reds. Three days from there it's a 5th round FA Cup showdown with Fulham at Anfield. It's starting to get interesting this!

Match Day #25
9 February 2012
Old Trafford

Manchester United 4-0 Liverpool

Scoring Summary
Javier Hernandez(MU) 16'
Wayne Rooney(MU) 41'
Wayne Rooney(MU) 43'
Wayne Rooney(MU) 70'p

Recap- With dreams of a Premier League title dancing in their heads, Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool club went into Old Trafford full of confidence following their dismantling of Spurs just three days earlier, they left the pitch a broken bunch, having been hammered by a United club with a point to prove. Star Man U striker Wayne Rooney was especially deadly, scoring twice in a matter of three minutes late in the first half before finishing off his hat trick with a penalty conversion in the 70th minute, so it was no surprise when he was awarded the match ball. Championship hopes now dashed, the Reds must now somehow put this match behind them in order to concentrate on what was their original, and as it turns out more realistic goal of a top four finish. Said Rodgers: "Very difficult to swallow this. We were beaten everywhere on the pitch and deserved every bit of this punishing defeat. I'm really disappointed in our effort, that's all I care to say."

Anfield

Liverpool 2-0 Fulham

Scoring Summary
Adam Maher(LFC) 39'
Jonjo Shelvey(LFC) 90'

Recap- Unsure how his club would respond following the disaster at Old Trafford just two days prior, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers went with a lineup loaded with youth and his plan worked perfectly, as Liverpool dominated the more seasoned Fulham club on their way to a 2-0 victory in their round five FA Cup match. The victory sets up a quarterfinal clash with surprising League 2 side Sheffield United for the right to go to Wembley.

Match Day #26
26 February 2012
Anfield

Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

Scoring Summary
Steven Gerrard(LFC) 47'p
Mikel Arteta(Ars) 88'

Recap- With a single point separating the clubs for the 4th and final Champions League spot, both Arsenal and Liverpool came into today's match at Anfield hoping for a win but more importantly not wanting to lose, so it was no surprise when at the half we had a nil - nil game with very few chances. Early in the second half however Liverpool got the that break they needed when Steven Gerrard was pulled down in the box following a fantastic 1-2 with Luis Suarez allowing for an easy penalty call by Howard Webb. Following the conversion by the Captain, Liverpool began to dominate play, holding the ball for long stretches despite being unable to crack the Gunners stout back line and just when you thought the Reds were going to win the match, Gunners midfielder Mikel Arteta broke the hearts of the Anfield faithful when at the 88' minute mark he took a perfect pass from Yossi Benayoun and rammed it home from just outside the area, leveling the match at 1-1. Less than five minutes later it was all over and both clubs ended the day just as they began it, with 4th Arsenal holding a one point edge on 5th place Liverpool.

Match Day #27
26 February 2012
Anfield

Liverpool 1-0 Everton

Scoring Summary
Stephen El Shaarawy(LFC) 13'

Recap- With the chance to severely damage the Champions League aspirations of their most hated rivals, Everton went into Anfield today with a renewed vigor and nearly left with a victory. Instead however it was the bitterest of defeats, as Liverpool hung on for the 1-0 victory. Starting in his first derby due to the unavailability of Luis Suarez, 19 year old striker Stephan El Shaarawy proved every bit the hero, scoring what what turn out to be the only goal of the match just thirteen minutes in, a brilliant strike from twelve yards out.
The victory, combined with Arsenal's draw with Spurs moves Liverpool into 4th place in the league, three points behind third place Chelsea and one point clear of the Gunners.
